My system: ASUS CUSL2-C/Intel 815PE/Intel PIII 850Mhz. Win98(lite. internet stripped out, 92% resources free). Pulsar2 card, Pulsar syncplate, Pulsar3 software. Yamaha DSP Factory + SW1000xg. Cubase5r6.
Connections: Pulsar2 ADAT-A to Yamaha O3D desk. Pulsar2 ADAT-B and syncplate to ADAT-XT20. Pulsar is wordclock master. DSP Factory connected to O3D via analogue to avoid wordclock conflict. Cubase connected to Pulsar via ASIO2 drivers, and Big Mixer.
My problem: Recording to Cubase via Pulsar analogue in/Big Mixer/ASIO2 works fine. On playback I hear a "crackling" noise that is not part of the recorded .WAV file. This happens whether I use ASIO2 24bit or 16bit drivers, in 8 or 16 channel configuration. When playing the .WAV file and viewing the Cubase screen, the "crackling" noise is occasional; but when viewing the Pulsar screen it happens often.
Any clever suggestions?

It's a latency thing. Set the ULLI too low and it goes "snap, cracle, pop" ! Shame really.

Thanks mate, but I tried all that long ago. Pulsar prefers to be wordclock master, and the ADAT and Yamaha 03D are marvellous; they sync and lock up to whatever you tell them to, provided of course it's a valid and stable source. As soon as I uped the latency time a bit, the problem went away. Hopefully my headache will leave soon too!!
