I just ordered the You Rock Guitar. If you have always wanted a stick guitar but can't afford one, this is perfect at less than $200.

Those are not real strings on the neck. The features I like are that it has tap mode, multiple and user tunings including the new standard tuning (Robert Fripp's tuning) and you can have each string on a different midi channel. Awesome!

Initially I was going to get the Fender Squire Controller which is just a cheap guitar with midi ($270). I could see how a guitarist would want one of those but it is not a revolutionary new instrument like the You Rock Guitar is IMHO.

This thing is a blast! It's revolutionary. Everyone should get one.

The internal synth is good enough to practice with and you could even add batteries and go off in the wilderness. It's easier to play than a guitar which I attribute to the smaller size and excellent engineering. It turns out that I like finger picking more than tap mode on this. The nylon strings don't make any sound, just like a plastic keyboard doesn't make any physical sound. I'm using the Robert Fripp tuning. My only complaint is that I wish it was more dynamically sensitive. A light touch will make no sound, unlike on a real guitar or a keyboard. Other than that, and the cheesey synth, it's great. It has midi out. I set it for each string to be on a separate midi channel in order to more accurately model a guitar because each string is a different thickness on a real guitar. One more complaint I forgot is that you can't bend the strings but on the positive side, it has a nice and fully functional whammy bar.
