Looks like my brother is thinking of buying an XITE-1 as well, but He might want to use it with a laptop. Is there any not to ridiculously expensive ones which support that expresscard well, and have a 17" screen or better?

Call up ADK.
They built a great laptop for me.
I'd avoid off-the-shelf, since they often have issues with firewire chips and bloated overkill setups.
ADK knows how to hot-rod them for DAW usage.

If i am not completly off the hook here i think Scan.uk is the eu dealer for adk.
And these computers-laptops Rock! They even get a custom Bios for the laptops which allows for all the tweaks necassary. And the customer support is fantastic.I ve seen/used a few of their systems and they are great.

Sorry, going back onto laptops.
For the Xite card for laptops, is a TI firewire chipset required?

It's not required, since the card is PCIe, but I've read of other conflicts with NON TI chipsets.
Will have to track down the information.

I have a Ricoh chipset in my Dell Precision M4400 and it works like a charm, even though Ricoh was a pain in the a** and not recommended with magma boxes, pci times that was...

I think the problem may be more for guys using firewire interfaces (i.e. RME, etc.), which we are NOT - so we have no worries.
Only concern is that the manufacturer motherboard has some sort of issues with firewire being right next to the PCIe on the main bus, but I doubt that even that is a concern.

Well if you guys have no trouble then that's cool. I'll go ahead and spring for an interface card.
