Can't really understand why some companies decide to use proprietary components on their equipment. For example I have a 17yr old Peavey DPM3 synth with a 3.5" floppy drive that just died so one would think a replacement floppy drive could just be swapped out right? And therefore this rather large now useless piece of plastic and circuitry could avoid being sent to the dump further contaminating the environment. Why on earth would the developers not just use a standard off the shelf floppy drive?

I don't think they had 1.44 MB floppies back then...so the new off the shelf ones would not work.....??? I think...

they used 720kb disks, just as atari and amiga did. Maybe hunt down one of those, or be cool and try one of these:

I see a guy with a dpm4 ordered one, read the forum and maybe ask him if it works.

720kb, holy cow i forgot, perhaps I might be able to locate one and give it a try. Thanks for the tip. I love keeping things running like this but I'm somewhat limited with my technical skills esp if soldering is invloved.
Was having a lot of fun with one of those Korg nano pads and dropped it on the floor and the mini usb port broke off so I gave it a shot with my soldering iron and made a huge mess of things
i have come to respect the talent involved with the guys that can do that stuff.
