2010 remote controller poll

2010 remote controller round up.

*** 8 columns : a BCR, BCF, Mackie control etc, have 8 columns
*** Line of 8 potis/faders: is a midi CC controller that has only 8 potis on 1 line (NI Maschine, Kore, other small controller...). Do not count buttons (number of buttons can be specified in reply if relevant).
*** Less than 8 poti/faders: if the controller don't fit either category: can be stuff like nocturn or other small midi CC controller.
*** Mackie Stuff: in case you use an genuine Mackie controller (only mackie mode for remote controlling).
*** None: wether you have or don't have a controller, as a matter of fact, you generally don't use it.

---- You can specifiy the brand in your answer.
---- Specify other particularity in your reply, or pics or whatever you think relevant.
---- Choose the answer closest to your case if no category fits.
---- As usual, useful mainly for developpers (and so... users :-) ) ....

8 or more columns........Nowhere near enough... :D

And I add extra faders, footswitches and pedals.
For the XITE-1 I use your mixer for the obvious reasons because live I MUST have the Insert Load presets.
And now I have a Modular Synth patch that uses no presets.
This is not an easy chore, but the hardware supports the excessive MIDI CC's I assign into the Modular Synth patch.
I still need another month of practice before I use this live,
but it is actually more flexible than a hardware synth since I can use footpedals, footswitches and all other controllers in the picture.
The KS88 is the best MIDI CC controller w/ an 88 note keyboard.
The action is heavy enough for Piano, and has enough resistance
to use as a B3/Synth controller.
As the jpeg. shows all of the Switches in the patch, a total of 15.
I use 15 of the 17 buttons for that, the other 2 buttons change my
hardware EML-101 and SE-1's presets, one each.
16 faders from the Doepfer for the SpaceF FP106X, the other 9 faders for various parameters of the Modular patch.
All 24 knobs are assigned to the Modular Patch also.
Then the ModWheel is a Cfm 2 control, Ribbon COntroller ( not pictured ) is for SYNC
tunings and filter sweeps of Cfm 1.
I need another month of intense practicing to memorize the Patch, but the SpaceF
mixer is already memorized and uses all of the pictured buttons, faders and knobs on a seperate zone.
I have memorized that years ago and need no practice.
I know the Monomes are really nice and would love to try one out.
But right now I have my hands full.
If anyone really wants to control their synths and mixers in Scope while being able
to play the keyboard, I really see no equal.
There are several little 47 noter's that look nice, but this is a multiZone controller,
one that I cannot perform without.

Nice, as for keyboard, it is not for now, but I am tempted by the CakeWalk ediroland A800 "pro" , just because it is like a perfect hardware interface for LBH (like it was made for it).... otherwise i wouldn't care.... 88 keys is too big for my small room, but Jimmy's own KB is probably the only keybaord worth looking at in terms of CC.... (too many reviews about the Novation one say it doesn't really work in a practical way, notwistanding the fact that the keyboard itself is not a keyboard for keyboardists (so they say...)....

I had a pair of Roland Controllers the A80 and the A90. The PAT sucked, but they make great controllers, and the MIDI was always top shelf.
That looks like a Roland and then I remembered Roland bought Cakewalk.
So now it's CakeLand..........
Couldn't resist.
That looks like a multiZone controller, even if it's only a split that's necessary for any real control.
That looks really sweet.........

>> So now it's CakeLand..........

a keyboard recommended by Eddie Cake-Roll...
  (sorry, ... back to bouncing tracks... sigh)...
lol, noway !!! ---> http://www.ibdb.com/person.php?id=77382

ps: it is very unclear wether they have AT... usually, Edirol has aftertouch only through a fader or pedal.... i wonder if a keyboard labelled "pro" can avoid simple AT ... answer when it is available.... if it is an Edirol quality KB, then it is to be forgotten (some keys won't work after a few month, and that's the same since 1990 on roland PC and Edirol midi keyboard series).....
Yes the new series has split function... and it also has "ACT" (kind of sonar's automap ?).

One thing I find especially crucial for live work is the Mute All Controllers Function on the KS88's. When changing my Controller Groups ( A / B & C ) or switching presets via MIDI PrgmChng messages, most controllers send out their parameters like a snapshot.
M Audio has seperate Snapshot capabilities, and the Mute All COntrollers means the hardware will not cause a jump in the software's parameters until I physically move another fader, knob, wheel, pedal, switch or wheel.
Too many other contollers will change the preset of the soft synth or mixer and retain the current postioning of hardware controllers, which usually means the preset then jumps to accomodate the incoming signals or even lock up, so while I understand these are all worthless pieces of shit that we use, some were actually designed really well, and probably by a live performer.
The little but thingys' are great and I haven't tried one in a while, but most of them seem like they were meant for indoor usage.
Well we have 8 guys here who use controllers.....
Good luck with teh RoWalk controller.

I'm using a Mackie Controller Universal PRO, and hopefully an 8 channel extender soon :-)

S|C, give us the 14bit Midi and OSC support! :D

Oh yes indeedy +1

Midibox64 (128 mid build)
BCR (of course)
Control Freak & Spin Doctor
Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch (multitouch and pen)
Wiimote motionplus
Stanton SC3d
and other oddments

So yes yes... 8 pot columns is minimal....:P This questioning is exciting from Mehdi, no? A device on the horizon, perhaps! :D

So here we go:
- dual BCR 2000 set (mostly used)
- one old 16 fader Kawai MM-16 (bought in 1992 !!!) dedicated to main volume control

Besides and more synth oriented: 1 akai MPD32 + 1 Novation X-Station (mostly used).

Last but not least, a MIDIBOX under construction ...

PS: do ASB can also be seen as Midi controllers ? :D

OK so ASB are not included in the list ... for the moment, but they could be added ... soon. :D :D :D

Actually I cannot send them to you as I would need to dive in the forest of noodles that I have around to unplug them ... :D

to Feg: just post us a picture of your Midibox ...

And a WiiMote: nice idea, I bought one for the same purpose I think but my children are now using it with their Wii !!!

2 Doepfer Drehbank chained togheter, so I can use all 128 MIDI controls.

What should I vote?

1 x 24 fader Regelwerk
1 x 8 knob Nocturn
1 x 13 knob Phat.Boy
1 x Lemur Multitouch controller

The Regelwerk is my MIDI mixer where I control how loud my synths go into the A16's. The Lemur controls the 24 channel and the 10 channel Scope mixers. The Nocturn and the Phat.Boy control other stuff like FX and Modulars. I can also use the Nord Modular G2 to build control surfaces but most of the time it is controlling it's own sound engine parameters.

Here's the one I will be getting sooner or later.
It's a perfect right or left hand mare on any 88 note controller.
The size is perfect, just like the Doepfer Fader Box.
Joels' partner stocks these and can be had within 24 hours.

One old Peavey StudioMix that gets translated into Mackie mode on occasion (studio mix control).

One BCR2000 (modular and effects control)
One BCF2000 (effects control)

One Keith McMillen SoftStep foot controller (for Live)

And the most used:
One Novation Launchpad (can do anything, with 3bit resolution! Mostly sequencing and loop recording/playback ;) )

I didn't count the channel selection knob ;)
