Of course, I assume you’ll answer in relation to your DAW, not about your everyday computer or your "all in one solution PC". The interesting thing about it is to get to know how big your “C” drive for music only applications is.

Mine is already 17GB. I remember when I had just about 2GB and it was already big.

My DAW "c" drive is 10GB (1.5GB free), it contains no sample libraries, only music software. You can install a lot of music software on a 10GB partition. All libraries and sample data are installed on my 400GB data drive.

I have disabled the network of my DAW partition so I did not install any windows updates for the past 5 years. The windows folder is 3GB. On my "internet enabled" partition where I do install the windows updates the windows folder is 10GB

C: Drive is 250 GB
D: RAID 0, 250 + 250 GB

I have tested D: with up to 100 tracks of mono 24 bit 44.1 Khz audio with no clicks. I stopped testing after that.

650GB - Everything on 1 drive, backed up to an adjacent drive regularly.

60GB of which about 20 are used.

The hd is 320gb.Music stuff including spectrasonics libs and cubase-reaktor lib and so on...is around 180gigs.

it's not the size of the drive, it's how you use it.

I reserved my C: for just Windows! its rather large with 20GB but I like to keep everything on seperate disks.
system, apps, sampels & projects.

C drive is 250 GB for apps & OS RAID 0 (2 250 GB hot swap drives mirrored)
E drive is 500 GB for audio & sample library RAID 5 (3 250 GB hot swap drives striped)

What do you mean Gary? Which is the difference between the way you use your drive and how I use it? Isn’t it all the same? Please, explain your point.

Do you mean that, for instance, your Cubase directory is “D” instate of “C”? If this is the case, haven’t you had problems when installing updates and the so?

And how is your experience using separate directories, is it worth the trouble? For instance, does your computer run faster?

Yes on the "D" I have installed scope software, flstudio, music tools. With updating; usually updates know where a program is installed so thats not a problem.

I dont think its faster. I install the music programs in the root. So D:\SCOPE D:\FLSTUDIO D:\VSTPLUGINS etc.
For me its no extra effort. Its worth the trouble for me because I like it this way however, its not really trouble. just choosing differnt installation directories.

i've never seen you use your drive.

i'd get a moderately big drive(100-250gb), just because they're cheap and it always stincks to run out of storage space. actually, i think the drive on my music machine is about 40gig, but it's ooollllddd. eventually i'll install another...

Ok, I see Francis… so the reason is just tidiness I guess, and of course, if you have a disaster, I imagine it is faster for you to fix all the errors.

I have had just now a disaster in my wife’s PC, I take close care of everything, but a very strange partition table problem screwed everything up without being able to restore, not even the images I had… nothing. I was forced to install all over again.

C drive is a 40GB Samsung, soon to be replaced by a 750G WD 'green' one - because it's cheap and quiet
