The sound of tape bleeding!!!!

So here is a tape project i did.
15 tracks recorded on an otari 24 track 2 inch machine.
I wanted it to sound as old school as possible so i punished the meters on that tape machine to be constantly in the red zone   :o :D

The mix is done 100% analog - Ssl desk, pultec eqs, 1176/DBX 160 comps etc etc.
I cut ALOT of bottom to make it sound old and ready to go to vinyl (i wish!! )

The band is a danish band called "Cala". We did all the tracking except vocals and snaredrum dubs at the same time in one big room. 3 mics on the drums. One mic on organ (fender twin reverb amp), one mic on bass (huge ampeg amp) - along with linedriver.
Ribbon mic on the saxophone.
The reverb is the sound of the vocal signal reamped through the twin reverb and recorded with an A/B stereo mic setup-- lots of fun :)
They used no monitoring - just all in the same room with some gobos in between the drumset and the rest of the band.

It was great fun!
Enjoy!

That's sick.... :)
I still have my MTR-90 it sounds great and it's almost 30 years old.
We use to get the levels clipping on the channels then bring them back a little.
Cranking up the Gain on Urei 537 would really get hot.
The music is really fresh too.
Too bad the mp3 conversion kills the tape sound.

nice one, I'm not really into this kind of music that much, but I like the production and it's sound, very well done (what I can say after listening with some cheapo desktop speakers)
