I began using drum loops instead of the metronome because Cubase comes with some decent ones. Recently I used one which was 8 measures long in a song and it came out really well. The problem is there are not enough of them and I wish they had some variations on the same loop.

Does anyone have suggestions for loops? I like slow tempo and acoustic mainly.

One of our local Bro's from St.Louis who made it in New York w/ JD Parran and other Westies.
He will make specific loops for you if you want.
If not fish through his high quality material as I am sure for your basic 4/4, 5/8, 7/8 stuff he'll have something much better than these cheezy sample developers.
He uses the best gear, and he has the best chops.
Funny too, for such a monster drummer the guys like 5'1"....

Does Cubase have a native drum synth that handles MIDI sequences?

If so, then check out MIDI sequences from Groove Monkey.com or oddgrooves.com.
You can drop them in and then (depending on which drum synth you use), you can pick different drums for different styles of music. I use Superior2 and Samplitude's native Livid and Vita synths this way.

Also, maybe check out freeloops.com, or PhatDrumLoops.com.

A google search will probably come up with tons of libraries, free loop exchanges, Acid loops, etc. They're all over the place.

That New Orleans thing sounds really great but it's all fast from the demo.

I don't know about paying some guy to do it. That sounds expensive and it has to be in sync.

I like the OddGrooves stuff. Yes Cubase does (finally) have a decent drum machine in it. I like the OddGrooves stuff. The Crazy Drumming pack seems good. I like that I can edit it with midi. They need more styles. I would like to have reggae.

Steinberg is selling loop packs for $15. There is one pack for ambient. I think I'll try it. It's a 350 meg download.

did you check out http://www.pgmusic.com in the last couple of years ?
they've made quite some progress in BIAB... still ugly, but not that ugly anymore
imho it's the best choice if you want to have something that sounds like a real drummer
the feature is called (surprise) 'real drums'
I know the interface is confusing, but there's no other app that can do such stuff.

for a more creative approach to loops my favourite is still Devine Machine,
which can generate real unusual loops from a basic sample (or another loop)

Band in a Box is a good tool for learning and fun. It would be nice though, if they expanded their genres to include African and Asian styles etc.. The demos still sound generic.

Another good loop/sound designer is Paul Vnuk (another Stillstream/Different Skies person), who just finished some loops for Sony as well.

Robert Rich did Sony Acid Loops too but some of those sounded Like could make them myself. They hardly let you hear any of it in the demo audio.

There's a deal on some loops here. I don't do loops so I wouldn't know if they are suitable.

It's apparently a "no-brainer" offer, so I'm not sure if the brain qualifies.

They don't all sound generic like Roland drum machine patterns do. It depends on who played it and the length. I don't have an aptitude for percussion, even with quantization.
