I have a little tendinitis so I decided to try the speech recognition built into Windows 7 Home Premium (or better). It's a slow way to surf the web but it is very fun. I would use this if I was writing a novel. Dictation works great but correcting mistakes is tedious compared with using your hands.. When surfing the web, there is an important command the tutorial doesn't mention, "mouse grid" which is like a virtual mouse. Most of the time you can just say where you want to click even if it is just one word. Internet Explorer seems easier than Firefox (no surprise here) but it is possible to use either.

I just have 2 mouses one on the left and one on the right, for almost everything except careful 3ds max or photoshop work(or wiring scope devices) left hand is fine, and it makes my left hand more dexterous for other things like attempting to play the guitar

Also if a program has keyboard shortcuts I use them as much as possible rather than menu clicking

I tried the voice thing but i just feel too silly talking to the computer

I was using my left hand but then I felt that one was developing problems. I was thinking about getting the 3M ergonomic mouse which looks like a joystick.

I recommend an occasional visit to the chiropractor to adjust the elbow and wrist.
A good massage helps as well.

I tested voice recognition software for use with Autocad about 15 years ago, and basically found it to be a pain <heh>. But yes, for doing a novel or some other redundant project requiring lots of typing, it might be ok.

I occassionaly worked with an Architechural firm that's partnered to Dubai World.
Everytime this one superintendent used Speak4, I had to go in the field and halt the construction.
In the real world memorizng several trades blueprints on a 2-3 floor basis is what's needed.
We had the Structural Steel guys putting 2' beams at 45 degree angles through entry ways from some moron in the office using " convenience " and collapsing the 3D Orbital into 2D w/o storing the proper points.
I made lots of coin because of guys like that so I was grateful.
I think it's fascinating stuff just for messing around, but not when several Union trades costing 1000's of dollars per hour are standing down while scratching their heads at collapsed 3D drawings from some office schmuck.

I would love to change presets from a voice command though..you don't even know how sweet that would be for me. A single voice command to Wolfs' MPC would change all of my presets..............sweet. Right now I have 16 simultaneously but still have to stop playing to pyshically hit a button.

I still just need some footpedal like a Pok, since I think there's less latency at my foot rather than me yelling at my rig during a gig .

Has anyone come up with a Wii-type game that uses voice command instead of wireless?
That would great for drunken Gran Tourismo

I remember with Autocad that it didn't like single word commands, so for 'delete' (even though it had two syllables), the engineer programmed it to respond to 'kill it'.
At one point he tried to get it to respond to swear words.

I DO know a blind woman who uses voice recognition on her Mac for doing papers (she's a physicist professor). Pretty cool.

I have the F8 and I am very happy, but they don't make wireless 1/4" foot pedals that I know of. I could really use the Pok for the program changes.

Maybe WIndows 7 can do voice command for powering up/down.

I'd like to get more Roland d-beams and map those to filters or whatever and use my guitar neck, or my head, or butt to swing through frequencies.
I already do this with my VG-99.

I'm eventually going to test my VG-99 to see how well it outputs CC for such things.

I'll try it for midi recording. That little pause might actually be helpful to relax and focus. A wireless headset would be ideal for this.

I had recorded names in it for when I get toasted, that way I didn't have to look at the tiny names and shit, but the problem is when I am toasted my voice changes and the phone seemed to know too....
I had 40 some names in it....I would have the word bitch for my X, best friends name was jerkoff, etc. The phone was not worth having with a good buzz on.

I do not understand why the computing engineers have not yet thought of creating a man / machine interface which would be directly transplanted to the brain. There would be only to think of the music so that the computer plays it !

Easy ! You would just have to lie down and let your imagination flying and hear the result through you favorit DAW.

It's a great idea ! I go away right now to file the patent !

You cannot patent an idea, an idea is just an idea, it is worth nothing as long as it is not made. What counts is to make your idea, and how you make it.

Now, don't be too impatient about mind commands because they already exist: they have a system ready for games. It is easy to recognize impulses, and actually is top research for disabled people, who lost motricity after an accident for example.
In terms of recognition, they can also make a difference between two scenes in a movie (they tried with "the good , the bad and the ugly", probably because it is very long and tension moments are well defined at precise moments).
They also have a bike that you plug in your arse and ... err, wait, it is just in South Park
But speech recognition is still years behind what it could be... OCR on the other hand, very impresssive what you get nowadays compared to 5 years ago....

Just some kind of details ! I am a automatician electrician industrial technician, me, Sir ! It's a cinch for me ! I just take an electrical wire, sold a needle at the tip, plug it into your brain to get the signal et voila ! I just need to amplify the signal, send it into some midi controler, where is the difficulty ? I just have to do so with different part of your brain, some to trigger notes, other to drive volume, other some FX, cutoff, pitch, whatever. And believe me, you gonna make nice music easily without your hands !

well, it's just the only one i've got and i like it stock. i'm really interested to see how well it works with your head though.
