I have also for sale two Magma expansion chassis for PCI cards. One has the PCMCIA adaptor, and the other the Express Card 34 adaptor, both have the necessary parts for working in each bus (i.e.. the PCMCIA has the black cable, the EC has the silver cable, etc.).

The EC is quite new, and didn't get much use, while the other one is a bit older, but has been working well.

This is the 2-slot model, but it can house 3 cards.

Both have been used to work with Scope v.4.5 on laptops, with success. There's an obvious loss in terms of PCI bandwidth (when compared to an internal PCI) that lowers the performance in terms of RAM based processes (reverbs and delays, i.e..). However, for synthesizers, I have found out that the poly counts are almost the same, especially with the EC model.

PM me with offers, if interested. You can combine one of these with the cards in my other thread and have a portable Solaris synth way before the XITE and HW Solaris crowd do !

I have one of these (CardBus/PCMCIA version) and it works great. Powers two cards just fine and works without glitches. Less bandwidth (7 Masterverbs with this particular laptop) but plenty for my needs & absolutely great for synths as Tau has already said.

I have actually used 3 cards in each without any issues (2x15+1x6 DSP), but they are only guaranteed to work with 2.

The PCMCIA box can go for about 200 Eur complete (plus shipping). This includes the chassis, with controller board, the cable and the PCMCIA interface.

The other one, is exactly the same, except it has the appropriate parts for Express Card, and is practically new. Price of a new unit in the US is 1200 USD, but it's much more expensive in Europe. I will only sell it for a reasonable offer.

These boxes will allow you to use not only Scope cards, but also TC, UAD or other PCI cards on a compatible laptop. There are also PCI and PCI-E interfaces available from Magma that allow you to use the chassis on a desktop, should you so desire.
