I want to to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving.
These days, as you all know, I have a lot to be thankful for...a great family, terrific wife, nice house, a good career, an Xite-1, and you guys...am I repeating myself?

Yes, Happy gluttonous Thanksgiving to one and all...
I'm sitting here with 12 nieces and nephews running under foot, so am feeling very thankful for family and all the simple things in life.

Yes, by all means be festive. No work for days, food, children, trim & family....
My Cousin has Fillipino neighbors who just got their citizenship recently and bless thier hearts.
They don't know squat about Turkey but they cooked up a storm and came to give us a whole bunch of noodles & stuff.
Naturally my father never forgets certain things and warned us that the missing Dog pictures on the telephone poles might be hidden amongst the food.........Lawd Have Mercy..
At any rate, this is my favorite Holiday because it doesn't cost me a fortune, and starting tomorrow I will be punished by Kenny G. Christmas songs for 30 days, which is Hell on Earth IMHO.
My Christmas wish is 5 minutes alone w/ Kenny G. in an empty shopping mall so my lashings that I give him can be heard with nice natural reverbs...

There's a classic bashing of Kenny ('one key') G by Pat Metheny.
Classic ('he's not a real musician') - hehe, I crack myself up.
Filled with lots of food and drink, and lots of games that I never learned as a kid.

Metheney's famous rant against Kenny G was originally posted to a small forum as a message to Pat Metheney's brother. It seems he now regrets this because he is constantly asked about it by reporters.
My comments are this:
1. Kenny G Sucks... big time
2. Pat Metheney is or was jealous of G's popularity
3. Metheney is a revered and gifted musician who I can't stand
I have tried to listen to Metheney's music both old and new and I never can get into it. My impression is that Pat Metheny is really into Pat Metheny and has honed his craft to the point that it sounds like very expensive pablum. He won't take any chances with his precious talent and thus is in his own way is as predictable as Kenny G. As long as these musicians have hoards of fans telling them they are great, this is what they will believe. It's a lot easier and fun for them that way.

He wishes there were reporters asking...
It was a flash in the pan event.
And I agree. Metheny is jealous, but if I were him I would be more jealous of Pat Martino.
He often gets confused for him and it must drive him nuts.
Pat Martino is the perfect player IMHO, he has such talent and has been inflenced by Djengo Rheinhart and Joe Pass, but at least has taken what he learned way down the road.
I wish I could hear him in the Malls instead of that sacklicker Kenny G.
His dynamic regurgitations are so boringly monophonic.
At least Bing Crosby and Perry Como had magnificient string and orchestral arrangements backing them up instead of a piece of shit sequencer drum....
He uses ToonTracks or some other childish sounding app. probably..
And Astro I am not exaggerating. They play the shit over and over until it makes me want to beat up Santa Claus or start speaker bashing. If these places could use little ceiling speakers and have the volume set at Crackhead levels ( for tip-toeing around the house ..

) I would be cool. But no, every music store drags out their generic JBL Eons and blasts that maggot gagging bull shit at high db's. It's an American Tragedy IMHO.

The 1950's Christmas time warp makes me want to puke. How can people listen to the same crap year after year? They never get tired of it. It's insane.
Gregorian chants are monophonic and they sound good, not to defend Mr. G or anything. I just don't like his style.

Love Martino, Django, Pass...did a lot of my own study of these gents back in the day.
But I also love Metheny - especially the acoustic stuff he does that hardly anyone listens to. I've heard him take chances live and on other people's stuff such as Joni Mitchell. I've read through his compositions/charts, and his knowledge of jazz voicing, approach, transition is very strong. Gotta listen deep to hear what he's really doing.
I love his huge harp guitar, but I don't have $100K and two years of my life to get one.
WAY more talented than Fripp IMO - although a totally different genre.
Meanwhile, back to Thanksgiving. Hope you all had a good one.
Me, I had to sit through charades of a room full of kids hooked on Disney, Harry Potter, Music Man, etc. etc. TOTALLY outside my current cultural lexicon.
Good thing is that all the kids are creative and fully expressed little crazy people, who enjoy reading and telling stories. They play (or make up) games instead of sitting around the TV playing stupid video games. They think Vampire Trilogy is stupid. They hate Taylor Swift. They realize that Britney Spears is a talentless hack. Same for Hannah Montana. They're not TOO sucked into the BS. Gotta give 'em some credit.
Most of my family are near gourmet cooks, and I'm a good gourmet eater, so I'm a happy bloated camper this morning.
For this I am thankful.

Between Halloween and Thanksgiving is my favorite time of year. The leaves start to turn, I get to have some fun w/ the neighborhood kids on Halloween, celebrate a birthday, and enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving with the family, and be thankful for the blessings I enjoy & sometimes take for granted. Between the trip back east, and the Thanksgiving festivities...it just grounded me a little bit (which you all know I could really use once in a while

)...and it is just refreshing to see that the true spirit of it all, has not gone lost.
And I, like you Jimmy, DREAD the time from now through Christmas...for there...the true spirit of the whole up coming day has been long lost, and as of January third...I get a major attitude adjustment (for the better)...for then I know it is all over, and I have another 11 months til it starts over again.
G, J, glad to hear you enjoyed your Thanksgiving.
Greg, I'm jealous of the whole "being surrounded by gourmet cooks" thing...
I do all the cooking in my house & after having one turkey at the outlaws house, my wife thought it would be a great idea, if I made another turkey on Sunday, just for the two of us....
My reply was...wouldn't you rather have veal scallopine, rack of lamb, pork tenderloin, or possibly a rib roast????
I will still make whatever she wants...she is still the best thing that ever happened to a schmuck like me, anyway...if it is turkey....well than, damn it....turkey it shal be....

keep the faith alive...by brotha's...be afraid of the Kenny G...be very afraid!

Pat Martino...

What a funny name, had never heard of him.
Last year we had a medley of techno takes on Christmas classics, sung by an extremely synthetic voice which sounded like a cartoon, playing on a continuous loop through the city center. Can't say it's worse than Kenny G, but it sure compares.

OK, so now it's passed. Time to pack up and head home. Start new project tomorrow.
The gluttony is over.
Time to get back in shape again - only to do it all over again at Xmas.
