ADAT Yamaha YGDAI problem

Yesterday I rebuilt my DAW, Windows XP, downloaded all the latest updates, installed a virus scanner, cubase 4 and Scope 4.5... everything worked fine I was able to use Scope fine and it would sync up to my Yamaha 03D YGDAI interface via ADAT optical. However today after doing nothing to it at all other than a power off/on it will not work. The sample rate setting in SP do not show a detected sample rate and the SPDIF light remains on, even though I am connected to ADAT-B, regardless of what setting I change.

This problem has frustrated me no end, and is the main reason I rebuilt the system. I've searched the forums and can't find anyone with this exact issue... I'm starting the thing that the card has gone faulty due the the erratic behaviour.

Any help is appreciated.

try reseating the daughterboard. carefully remove the 4 nylon screws and lift off and reseat the board. using some stabalint or deoxit or even 99% or better alcohol may help. also, clean the rest of the card's contacts while you're at it....

ok so you think there could be some dust or dirt in there, I had not considered that. I will look at cleaning it next time I pull the machine out, which is about a 20 minute job these days because of all the stuff it's connected to....

Interestingly enough I just tried a little experiment and connected the optical output of the adat port to the input of the same adat port and BAM it came up straight away, now the Pulsar ports are detected in Cubase and everything seems to work fine again..... could it be that there is some initialization that is not occurring properly between the YGADI and the Pulsar ??

not dirt or dust, but oxidation.

however, based on your last post, i'd say that a connector wasn't fully seated, or there is/was dust inside that optical port. obviously, that's the first thing to check for, the contact cleaner is the next step, after the connectors are checked/cleaned(with compressed air).

This problem has come back to haunt me again ! It's hard to explain because I can't exactly put my finger on what is going on. I know it's not a Cubase problem because the ADAT will not sync even in SP with XTC mode switched off. Rebooting or even powering off my PC does not help either.

Testing it with XTC mode on and starting Cubase results in there being no outputs available in cubase, I can then open up the ASIO control panel and change things around but nothing seems to have any effect. One time when I left cubase just sitting there for a long time it just started to work but it switched sample rates to 96khz, don't know why, and I don't know how this was possible because I have it set up to sync the the YGDAI at 44.1khz. The other strange thing is that the sample rate display on the 03D mixer flashes between UNLOCK and 32khz but I have it set to 44.1khz....

I'm thinking that maybe the sample rate has become latched and the Scope card is stuck on 96khz or something strange. I'm about to pull it out and see if there is any dust in the optical connectors or anything.
