Hi Folks,

well, time passes by and I feel like a Pulsar Dinosaur. Such is life!
I'm finally getting back to re-furbishing my old Dell server as an audio unit, decided to use XP instead of win2K, did the "standard pc" and Adaptec ASPI layer. All is well.

one thing I seem kind of clueless about is how to define the driver properties thru the XP device mgr to give my correct audio settings. The XP dialogue box I have looks a little different than the one in the SCOPE 4 manual, so any help would be appreciated.

I'm running two boards in Parallel (Pulsar 1 and 2), under Scope 4.

Under the device Mgr > Properties > Settings dialogue, I have "wave setup" with numbers I can plug in for "devices" and "channels" (for each board). Can someone please give me the correct #'s to implant here?

Also the Sonar profilers I'm running can only find 44K sample rate allowance; and under the same dialogue, I have the following controls:

1. Output preload slider, from small to big
2. Preferred bit depth (only "16" avail, 24 & 32 are greyed out)
3. MIDI setup # of devices (is this 2 for each card?)
4. Power Mgmt: allow standby "with no application using the hardware" (only choice avail, others greyed out)
5. Reset board if idle (checked by default)

I have both boards forced to IRQ 11, as per previous advice I rec'd from a Creamware agent.

Also, Sonar reports that only "Mono" waves can be supported in my config.

If anyone can suggest tweaks and settings for me, I'd be much obliged.

since you've had the card for a while, some of this may be redundant.

xp only reports 16bit because windows doesn't control bit depth, Scope does. you can find the samplerate settings under "set" on the Scope live bar. Scope is not a standard windows soundcard, and some windows functions for soundcards won't be available with a Scope card. the windows properties dialog is meaningless, although you should uncheck "reset board if idle" to save yourself from having the card power down(and losing your current project) if you leave the system on and unattended for several hours.

bit depth is controlled by which modules you choose to use in the routing window. i suggest using 24bit asio modules to use with Sonar. the profiler isn't really any help, either. it's best to run it once, just to make Sonar happy, then ignore it and manually choose the asio driver in Sonar. remember, you must have the Scope asio modules and sequncer midi modules in the routing window, with the proper number of ports enabled BEFORE opening Sonar. it'll all work fine then.

aspi is no longer required for Scope, although some akai sample discs may require it. it's not at all necessary for the cards to be on irq 11 or any other particular irq. what IS important is that the cards don't share an irq with another device, unless it's another Scope card. since it's an older motherboard, it may work best with "standard pc", but newer motherboards will probably work best with acpi enabled.

the most important tweak is to go to system properties/advanced/performance and choose "adjust for best performance". this will turn off all the xp gimmicks and make you system much faster and smoother.
