Pretty disappointed with V5 so far :-(
Hi All,
Finally bit the bullet and paid for the upgrade to V5, currently wishing I hadn't:
- No warning that you need to completely uninstall V4 first, so I now have a no working audio and have to try and find some way of re-installing V4 so I can uninstall it?!
- Shocking manuals. I mean really, way to put off any new prospective users...
- When I open V4 projects in V5, I get repeatedly asked for license keys. It doesn't tell me what device it's asking for, but I get about 5 of the dialogs in a row.
- When the project finally does open, it looks like several standard devices (mixers from the default stuff, iirc) and wiring are missing. No dialog telling me what is missing and why. Nice
Oh well, at this rate, I'll be expecting to see SonicCore go bust some time soon...
Chris

Re: Pretty disappointed with V5 so far :-(
First of all, v5 is no official release, yet!!!! It's still a RELEASE CANDIDATE!!!
Second, you probably paid for the v4.5 upgrade because that gives you the right to get v5 for free...
So, don't complain and use v4.5 which works well...
Third. just write a POLLITE email to SC, tell them exactly what your problem is and they will tell what to do
to get v5 running... I had similar problems and I could fix them during one day...
I think it's related to a modified copyprotection (via dsp files) cause another company from India wanted to screw them
by selling keys...
Hope that helps...

Re: Pretty disappointed with V5 so far :-(
If people are happy to take my money and advertise something, then that counts as an official release in my book...
The Sonic Core site does a very bad job of explaining what a user should be using.
The implication is that you should be using V5, which is what I'm trying to do...
Are you now saying that I should stick with 4.5? When will 5 be available? 2015?!

Re: Pretty disappointed with V5 so far :-(
And I should point out that I now have a totally hosed audio setup on this computer...
V4 won't start, complaining of the wrong hardware version.
V5 doesn't see any audio coming from the Wav software sources, even though the software driving those will play happilly...

Re: Pretty disappointed with V5 so far :-(
from english version of SC website:
SCOPE v5.0 Software is available!
Windows XP and Vista compatible (32 bit)
Version 5 of the SCOPE software for SCOPE XITE-1 is shipping. Version 5 of the SCOPE software for PCI cards is available as Release Candidate.
I think that's pretty clear...

Re: Pretty disappointed with V5 so far :-(
To get v4 running again, just install v4 driver again...
These are the main changes for the Scope 5.0:
* WinXP 32 and Vista 32 support
* New drivers for ASIO, WAVE and Scope hardware
* New SC channelstrip EQ
* New SC channelstrip dynamics
* New channelstrip SC-SL9000
* New reverb effects: LX-Bundle, SC-RMX 160, 5.1 surround reverb
Hope THAT helps...

Re: Pretty disappointed with V5 so far :-(
How do I do that?
I tried downloading ftp://sonic-core.net/software/SCOPE_Fam ... pe40PC.zip
but WinZip told me it was corrupt, even thought the download was the right size.
Is there anywhere I can just get the 4.0 drivers? I still have the Scope install...
Are the drivers still on my system in C:\Windows\System32\drivers?
If so, what are they called?
Chris

Re: Pretty disappointed with V5 so far :-(
And I don't think what you pasted from the website *is* pretty clear.
I still read that as "You should be using V5, that's the best there is".
From what you've said, it should really say "If you want a stable system, use V4.5. If you want a half-finished product with lots of rough edges, then go for V5".
I'd likely still have *gone* for V5, but just with very different expectations. I develop software for a living, what I've seen of V5 so far, particularly the docs, would be an early to mid beta, *not* a release candidate...

Re: Pretty disappointed with V5 so far :-(
Hmmm... alright...
you can get v4.5 and a ASIO driver update here:
ftp://sonic-core.net/software/SCOPE_Fam ... .5_for_PC/
As far as I can remember I would download and unzip, run v4.5 installer.
The installer will give you the possibility to install the new drivers and after that the system will reboot...
If you want to use your old v4 installation you can probably stop the installer right after the reboot and everything should be fine...
Other possibility would be to install the v4.5 driver by hand...
After unzipping v4.5 setup, there's a folder called driver:
Go to device manager, rightclick on your CW card, properties, driver, update (or smth like this... anyone else knows this exactly???)

Re: Pretty disappointed with V5 so far :-(
Same thoughts about the "RC" against "Bêta" naming but seeing how late the "definitive" version is, they might come out with sthg interesting.
Speaking about drivers: get the v4.5 install dirs close to you, then "Hardware Devices" - "sound and ... devices" - Update divers - then select drivers from v4.5 directory.
Well, developer? Not used to Windows workarounds then...

Re: Pretty disappointed with V5 so far :-(
I think I know how you feel...
But in audio software I sadly have to say that using new versions of ANY software is not a good idea to
have a stable system... WE ARE BETA TESTERS...
As examples: just remeber the MANY bugs the first ProTools 7 software had...
I nearly ruined the ears of a voice actor when I opened my default session and EVERY AUXSEND wasn't down to zero but
at 0dB!!!
I just installed the new Logic 9 and was informed (just right in time) not to touch ANY parameter of an
old EXS preset... If I do so my WHOLE EXS-Library will be wrecked...
I don't want to defend SC at all... Just want to reprt my experiences to you...

Re: Pretty disappointed with V5 so far :-(
@iSiStOy: I develop web apps and server software, so no, I'm not used to windows crap, I use real operating systems.
The Pulsar2 I have is the only reason I still run Windows, otherwise it'd most likely be Mac, or maybe Linux if I could find a good audio-centric setup *and* get Cubase and Ableton working on it...

Re: Pretty disappointed with V5 so far :-(
*sigh* It's insanely frustrating waiting for a huge zip to download for drivers that are *already* on my system...
Anyone know where the existing drivers will be or what they'll be called?

Re: Pretty disappointed with V5 so far :-(
And, having downloaded about 700Mb of V4.x stuff this morning, I now have two large zip files, one for 4.0 and one for 4.5, neither of which open with WinZip.
Are these weird zip files? Are they corrupt on the SonicCore server?
*sigh*

Re: Pretty disappointed with V5 so far :-(
I will DL v4.5 and check if it's fine here... If so I PM you the drivers, ok?

Re: Pretty disappointed with V5 so far :-(
and in the future.. you dont have to uninstall scope 4. just rename the scope 4 folder, and install scope 5 and the new drivers.
I just had to go back to v4 the other day.. because of selling my v5 card.
i downloaded the 4.0 installer and everything worked fine. I didnt uninstall scope 5, just renamed the folder, and installed the scope 4 drivers.
I of course had to do new projects since v5 and v4 projects arent compatible.

Re: Pretty disappointed with V5 so far :-(
@Janni: that would be great, thanks!
@the19thbear: er? I already installed V5 in a different location, and my V4 installation is in C:\Scope, so not the default.
I need to take my V4 projects across to V5, what am I supposed to do?!
