R.I.P.

He has left such a mark on us he is like an Ocean, he'll always be here.
Playing at his age is a serious warrior.
So Long Les..

I'm realizing what an inspiration he was to keep gigging into his 90's - even after open heart surgery and what'all.

Plus - multi-track recording.... geezy chriminy.

My Dad says he still has some old Les Paul/Mary Ford albums laying around - breakthrough stuff back in the day.

He's probably up there jammin' with Bob (Moog).

probably. a lot of his sound on sound work sounds like synths, not guitars...

Respect.

I've always been a fender man myself, but his death has not only made me realise quite how many things this man contributed to the world of guitar and indeed recording!! (pretty much invented the idea of mobile recording!) but suddenly i've got GAS for a gibson guitar as well! Its not often we see such a heavyweight contributor to the world of music...

Now where did i put my echo pedal?

How high the moon.. 26 tracks simultaneously.. dunno the year but thats a lot even today!

There was a nice interview with LP about a year ago in Tape Op magazine. He's given lots of interviews over the years and much of the story remains the same but the Tape Op interview went into a little more depth than usual. I guess Bing Crosby gave LP his first analog tape deck which came from Germany after the war. LP wasn't sure what to make of it at first. I guess Bing was looking for a way to record his radio shows while on the road and eventually ended up doing just that. LP gets much of the credit though for kinda pushing the boundries of tape recording and multi-track recording. He apparently still had the original 8 track tape machine he had built for himself in his home studio. A true innovator. I did a reasearch paper on him for a high school english class and it impressed my teacher to no end (he was a guitarist although I didn't know it at the time). The first time I had heard LP play was on the Chester & Lester album which I thought was curious and midly interesting but it wasn't really my cup of tea so much (at the time). I'm not one for hero worship and I don't tend to lament the passing of too many entertainers but LP will be missed.

While not my favorite musician, he had tremendous talent and was quite influential especially with his guitar design, but he's not resting, he's dead!

Death IS a good long rest as far as I'm concerned - especially after such a long life.
