Subject: Samples directory?
I keep all my samples in a Sample directory, with subfolders for the types of sounds.
My samples ALWAYS stay in the same place, but I store my STS programs inside my project's folder with my logic files.
This seems to work fine... So you're serious about this being a show-stopping issue? You do realize how a hardware sampler works, with it's tiny interface, really slow sample load times, and limited RAM expandability, correct?
Of course most hardware samplers DO have better filters...

Hello all Pulsar users out there (both happy ones and less happy ones)!
Currently I am seemingly happy with my Pulsar setup, having got to grips with the finer details of trimming the PC to meet the demands of Pulsar.
But, one major thing still puzzles me; how on earth do I achieve a relative reference, rather than a absolut reference, to my samples and sample setup for the STS4000??
As soon as I change a song folder name (in which I store all files related to a particular song; Cubase wav files, midi files, STS 4000 samples and setup, pulsar project file etc) or move that folder to another part of my HD, STS4000 is unable to re-locate the samples set up I have used. Cubase easily relocates its files, as it automatically looks in the same folder as its .son file as a first option but STS 4000 insists on looking for the absolut file reference(which naturally alters with the change of a folder name or the change of a folder path). Maybe I am stupid, but I have not yet found a way to overcome this rather non-dynamic approach to file management. I mean, after all working with song development is by its very nature a dynamic process (the title of the song changes, you want to move the conplete song setup to a CD-ROM in order for a friend to continue with some work etc etc - thereby changing the file paths/namnes).
Unless there is a way around this issue I am sad to say that the STS 4000 becomes nothing but useless, despite its nice sound, useability and otherwise ok features.
Thoughts, anyone - or do I have to surrender to Steinberg's VST sampler HALion?
Regards /mattias

Subject: Sample Filing
Yes, I have the same issue with all the Creamware samplers. The only (sort of) fix I've found is to store the samples you're using in your song (or presets) folder, then reload those samples from that folder. It's a pain. The Gigastudio also has a much better dynamic file system. Let's both bug Creamware...see if this can be addressed soon!

Hi Guys,
Does anyone know if this sample-location-reference-issue has been fixed in v2.04a ?

AFAIK, it was never broken, it just requires you to be a little thoughtful of where you keep your samples. You can copy files off an AKAI-format CD using the Pulsar File Browser, so I pull all the programs & their samples into a directory for the track I'm working on... I've copied entire AKAI CDRoms using Pulsar onto my Harddrive, and simply reference that sample directory, for samples I'm reusing a lot.
