confused - question about selling scope pro cards with plugs

Hello,
Sorry if this has been covered, but I'm looking to sell my two Scope Professional Cards. There are LOADS of extra synths/plugins (including most of the Zarg Music ones), basically I bought pretty much all the plugins which were available up to about mid-2005 or so.

The last time I logged on to Creamware it was literally years ago, when it was the Creamware site and you could download the AllKeys.skf file and e-mail Ralph if there were any problems... Now how does it work?? I don't even know where/how to log on to view the licenses which I own??

I did have to re-install my system a few times, because of problems with the PC, and I remember authorising everything again was a bit of a nightmare (especially the Zarg Music ones, although John Bowen was EXTREMELY helpful with this, just involved having authorisation codes e-mailed to me etc.). So the next time I had to re-install the machine (yes, I had to do it a few times!!), I decided to try making a backup of the "Devices" folder (and other folders which had been modified, including the “Samples” etc.). Once I re-installed Scope I literally just replaced the Devices folder with the backup... Then I just imported my “Allkeys.skf” file, and voila! All the plugins were 100% working properly, including the Zarg synths…

I’m not sure if this is the “proper” way to do it, but presumably this would NOT work if I were to transfer to another user?? Because even if they can install the successfully using this method like I did, they need to have the licenses actually transferred to their name, right?

What’s even more complicated is that I believe some plugins are registered to one card, while others are on the other card… How on Earth do I work out which plugins are registered to each card, and then make sure the correct plugins for each card are transferred to the new owners??

I was initially thinking Ebay (planning to list within the next week or so), but if anybody’s interested in these I can list all plugins available for each card (once I’ve worked out what they are!!), let me know, thanks in advance!!

By the way I’m selling because I’m making my studio a lot smaller with a view to being portable, and I’m trying to concentrate on Sound Design, rather than full-blown music productions. Macbook pro is going to be my main machine, and I’d love to keep the Scope stuff but it’s just too bulky for me to have PCI cards, and financially (after my most recent studio re-fit) I just can’t afford to keep them. I would love to go with the X-ite and stay with Scope (when/if it gets released), but I’ve just invested in a Kyma system for sound design, so can’t afford/justify this!! I reckon if I ever end up making big bucks, I would come back to SonicCore though…

Actually on 2nd thoughts I am NOT going to be using the PC any more, it was primarily intended as a Gigastudio Machine (as well as a standalone effects rack), so I'm thinking of selling the whole lot as a bundle... This will include the rackmounted PC (with official version of Windows XP), 2 Scope Pro cards, a sync plate, and all the extra plugins (I will post a complete list, as well as the specs of the PC, when I get home tonight).

I'm converting my Giga samples to Kontakt, to use on the Mac Pro now, so the machine is defunct for me really. Great as a Scope machine though...

Would let the whole lot go for £1750!! I'm desperate to get my new studio installation off the ground. I can deliver in person around the London area, for the petrol costs. Otherwise it's gonna be Ebayed shortly, please get in touch if anyone's interested in this.

Cheers.

yes, it's a good idea to have a copy of the allkeys file. Actually more than 1... and the totally paranoid will also keep a printout (as it's a plain textfile)
Which brings us to what is registered to what...
just look into the allkeys file with a text editor: the board serial is written before the license key
the Scope settings dialog 'Registry' should give the same info, btw.

Dunno which kind of card you're gonna sell, but prices are extremely low - in particular for additional stuff. Noone values that in 2nd hand market, it's a tough business.
Last year I bought a 2nd hand Scope Pro for about 750 Euro with an allkeys file of 130 lines...

cheers, Tom

Hi there,
Thanks, I will list all the plugins tonight, there are several so it should up the value a bit. I was going by a card which sold on Ebay (from the UK) about a month ago (4th March). It was a Professional card, and did not have any extra plugins, but sold for £733 (813 Euros at the current exchange rate). That wasn't your one was it??

So to ask for £1750 for two Scope cards, with all the extra plugins, a sync plate and a rackmounted Windows PC bundled in is pretty reasonable, right?

Sorry I don't have the specs or the PC or the exact plugins, I can't remember everything off the top of my head, but I will list these as soon as I'm home tonight.

Cheers!

yes, imo your price is even very reasonable, considering the fact that the buyer doesn't have to configure the system himself... ;) :D
unfortunately it's a bit beyond the typical 2nd hand price domain, but if the right person is looking at the right moment all will be good - a matter of chance.

I actually bid on that specific card only because of the bundled plugins (Osiris, TripleXP, SixString, Prodyssey, ProOne, RedDwarf, Z-Matrix, Transient Designer to name the most prominent...) and I wasn't really serious about it anyway. Just placed what I considered as 'spare' at the moment and that happened to be the highest bid - a pretty lucky purchase.
At least it polished my eBay balance as I had experienced a couple of fraud cases in recent years. :D

cheers and good luck, Tom

Ok yeah thanks, if I go the Ebay route then I'll probably not include the PC, coz like you say that would be tricky to "market"... But if anyone on here is interested in the whole system please get in touch. Will post details tonight, cheers!

well, it certainly would make sense to offer the 'package'
For example I've been (occasionally) looking for an old Protools system that comes 'bundled' with a Mac, you know those early 5-figure things that show up from time to time.
Just the target group is much smaller and Creamware - SonicCore is kind of exotic for the 'masses'...

cheers, Tom

Ok thanks for the tip, I've got all the specs together so I'm going to do it as a separate post to avoid confusion... Thought I'd try over here before Ebay as clearly this is the space for Scope fanatics!
