why do these things always need to be arcane?

why is it acceptable for musicians to work and never get paid(from time immemorial)?

it's all good for artists with Reznor's exposure...
it's all good for those who only wish to have some sort of fame, and not rent and food money....

It is ridiculous to think that music will ever die. There was music long before anyone made a living from it. Most of commercial music is garbage so it would be no great loss if professional musicians can't make it.

Would you prefer DRM? For some musicians, the only possible payment is money. Those people are whores IMHO. You should be glad anyone wants to hear your music. It is perfectly legal to give your friend a copy of the music you buy in real life. That is called "fair use". It's akin to using the Xerox machine in the library and not paying. Now with the internet though, the musicians and corporations want to change the rules all of a sudden. This is bullshit! Everyone should fight back. I am so amazed that musicians are not on the side of their own fans. Brainwashed by corporations!

ok, braincell-
auto mechanics are just lucky that you want to allow them to fix your car. the one's who want money are WHORES, ditto for cooks and farmers.

music is SERVICE to the rest of humanity. musicians deserve PAY just like WHORES, policemen, gardeners, graphic artists, teachers, and waitresses.

all this "real artists starve for their art" is some bull shite brainwashing that REAL artists who ARe making a living use to discourage others from competining with them. the making of the art is pure, the payment is compensation for time and effort, for time spent in one's valuable life. the time really has no monetary value, it's just that the time spent on art could be spent on making a living, so a value is placed so that one can avoid starvation.

Todays payment works with gigs and selling CDs directly afterwards.
The lazy internet sales channel can only work if you offer free teasers so that people learn your style.....if you have one.

And I agree the garbage and exchangeable copycat masterpieces are wasted time.
all basic and unarguably true....

It's bullshit to say that copying a digital file is stealing because you still own it. They are not taking anything from you, they are merely duplicating it.

If I take a photo of you, I am not stealing your face. That is inherently ridiculous. If my daughter has children I don't say she is stealing some of my genes because I didn't grant her permission to use them. Contrary to popular opinion, the purpose of music isn't a to be a vehicle for musicians to make money. If you want to sell music that is fine but don't be anal about it. You are selling music not oranges and ideas belong to society.

music IS oranges.

music is not just ideas, because music has a measurable physical effect. music involves ideas, and it involves vibrating air and environment, a physical activity.

that said, i don't have problems with people making copies per se, i have problems with the greedy get-it all-for-free attitude, especially when the people with the attitude can afford to pay.

Personally I support the artists and could care less about record companies.
The sooner they go under, the sooner we will see less " pop " anyways.
I just got the latest Keith Emerson new CD for 18.00 USD and would rather have that than some compressed iPod jive with crappy earpieces................arrrgghh.

Yup, that's the point. There is as much elites in the record industry as in there is in any bank/industy. The fact that Sweden was threatened with WTO sanctions if they didn't take action against Pirate Bay says it all.

I just can't see how musicians suddenly should become a lot poorer because of this. Sure, there will be less record companies surviving. Less CD factories etc. Bands will need to play more concerts to build a name, and they need to interact more with their fans. However, they will have no limits within their creative process (as no bullshit record company will tell you what you can or can't put on your album), and the money is there to be made if you just are creative enough and give people a reason to buy your product.

------------

it is mainly the small companies that support newcommers;
exept the newcommers who have friends in the big companies of course;
it is the small companies that fight to survive;
the big get just a bit less profit thats it;
anyway the big make their money elsewhere . .

i saw a lot of great talented artist now working as . . .

pirate the big if you want but please support the small companies and artists;

if not you will have 1 or 2 companies some day not far telling you what is good music;

and for newcommers its better to build a friendsnetwork than to practies their instrument

good vibes

Actually a lot of indies are on iTunes but I do not like that they dominate the market or that you must get their stamp of approval.

Is file sharing the death of corporate pigs taking most of the money artists earn?
does that mean radio stations will have to find new material themselves rather than play what they are paid to?
does it mean there may be no more fake mass marketed autotune "singers" ?

terrible shame.
