Dear Pulsarians,
my pc freezes many times and I resoved it, I think: no IRQ, no drivers, no hardware problems:
on disk I record the Cubase files and audio where, there are errors on files audio!!!! This happened some time ago and happens with librarian disk also; I changed the two disks!!!
Now the problem happens again ... again crackles, freezes!!! So I transferred the complete Cubase audio songs in other disk and the projects works VERY NICE but some files lost!!!!! The disk I recorded files audio where, was new, 500 SATA2 Seagate bought for!!!! Anybody had that type of problems? Maybe two fault disks??? Have ideas about???

My system: Intel E6600 on mo.bo Asus P5B-E, 4 giga Patriot Extreme DDR2 8500, Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT, case Thermaltake Armor, sata2 disks Seagate 320+500+250 (programs, audio and libraries), Win Xp Pro Service Pack2, Scope Platform 4.0, mother's driver updated.

GaryB is referring you to this thread in the Tech forum here. Seagate drives are currently 'disappearing' from the BIOS (the current bug) and there's also a recent bug that caused issues with video playback on their 1TB & 1.5TB drives (as well as a TLER bug that affects RAID users). Check your drive models to see if they'r eaffected.

If they're not in the affected date/firmware/model range, check the SMART data for the drives. Use HDTune or HDD Health (HDD Health is at the bottom of that page) to view the SMART Data.

BEFORE doing any further diagnostics on the drives or suspecting them, make SURE you eliminate your PSU (power supply) and cpu heatsink's operation (look at the temps for your cpu). I recommend Lavalys's Everest for checking voltages & system temps (it can also check the drive SMART data btw). You'll want to look under "Computer" > "Sensor" and you'll find the Temperature & Voltage data. You'll need to check this both at idle & under a decent system load.

Next check your memory either use memtest86 (easiest to use from Ultimate Boot CD) or use Windows Memory Diagnostic, let whichever one you choose run at least 1-2 passes.

The reason to check these things FIRST is because a problem with the PSU, your cpu's heatsink or the system's RAM can cause many other problems with the system. For instance running drive diagnostics & repair with bad RAM will actually corrupt a disk that could be perfectly good!

If you wish to test the drives themselves, eliminate all system issues as the cause, as mentioned above. Then give Seagate's Seatools Diagnostics a shot. Be warned most of those tests take some time, and some can even destroy data, so read up fully.
