hi !
i have few questions if anyone experienced,
so far i'm using Cubase VST 5 and i'm thinking to purchase
Cubase essential 4, simple and good enough for what i need,
now i have checked at thomann shop, it just writes
cubase essential 4 and i don't know is this meant to be
version 4.0 or is there also free upgrade to higher versions but also essential version, cause at sonic core site writes ,
patch for 4.1 cubase version,
is this patch necessary or ?
any tips from cubase users are welcomed,
thanks in advance

Scope asio patch and cubase 4
Re: Scope asio patch and cubase 4
Hi, Cubase essential 4 is now updated to essential 4.5 to provide support for Steinberg's new hardware. Not sure if you need to update it afterwards or if it comes as 4.5 straight out of the box now. More info on the 4.5 update here. You can also purchase an essential 4 compatible MP3 upgrade from Steinberg for about 15 euro.
I can't say for sure, but since essential 4/4.5 uses the same audio engine as Cubase 4, I'd assume that SC's ASIO patch would work, but maybe someone can confirm that for you.

Re: Scope asio patch and cubase 4
It really is a great price. I'm actually wondering if it would be worth buying it myself. We have SX2 at the moment on our main system & I'm wondering if the new features in Essential 4 would make it a worthwhile purchase for sharc & I. We could still use SX2 on one system & use Essential 4 on our other system. mmm
It looks like it has practically ALL the new features of the fully blown Cubase 4 except that it's limited to 64 audio tracks, doesn't have the Surround features, doesn't have DirectX & that's about it other than some additional plugs that come with the full Cubase 4. I noticed on Thomann that the Essential 4 packaging box has exactly the same weight as the the Cubase 4 Studio version (1kg), while the full Cubase 4 package is double the weight, so I guess the only difference there is that the fully blown 4 package contains heavy printed manuals.

Ah... essential 4 is also missing Notation printing & WDM/MME.
I'm really tempted... hehe.

Re: Scope asio patch and cubase 4
I found out that there's more to the differences between Essential 4 & Cubase 4 than meets the eye. Here's a list of the main ones (not counting the differences in the plugins it comes with).
- I/O's limited to 32
- FX return channels limited to 8
- VST instrument slots limited to 16
- Doesn't have the new Control Room
- Doesn't have the new Extended Channel EQ (VST3 Studio EQ)
- Doesn't have the new Sidechain inputs
- No recording from buses
- The new 'Media Bay' feature is limited.
- No logical editor.
- No Inplace Editor (MIDI editing in Project Window)
- No Volume envelopes
- No Global Transpose Track
- Audio Warp is playback only
- No Time Warp tool
- No Pool Import and Export
- No Track Quick Controls
- No Sequel Project import
I might still buy it though..

just to be sure, how is that meant to be ? should i be able to select output busses (16 channels-asio) to scope mixer, like i have now ?
or recording from buses is for other purpose ?
other mentioned i don't need, 16 vst slots is more than i need, CPU meter is too short to load them all

my simple and fastest working setup that i need:
load VST's (enough slots)
select ASIO and dedicate 16 channels, sended to scope mixer
and audio channel for recording mix
i was just little confused reading no recording from busses, is this the same like sending from asio busses to scope mixer ?

Re: Scope asio patch and cubase 4
Matej,
I got the info from the steinberg website on a Cubase comparison page they have there. I can only assume that it's somehow related to not being able to record buses internally (on the fly) in Essential 4, but there wasn't enough info to be certain. You shouldn't have any problems at all sending 16 channels out to Scope via ASIO.

If you can afford it, go for the full Cubase 4 as opposed to the Essential version.
As far as moving from Cubase 5, I recently upgraded from VST 32/5.1 and it is quite a shock to the system.
It is well worth doing and I'd never go back now.
A word of warning though. Cubase 4 will not load .ALL files so you have to convert them first with SX3 - this is available for free to help you convert to C4.
Just do it.
