Hi all there,

I recently reorganised my studio.. I wanted to integrate my hardware more with my setup, so I set up all my hardware synths and effects as external instruments and effects in cubase 4.
Everything works like it should, except for 1 unit. I own a Creamware Pulsar 2 Plus. I have connected all my synths and effects to my Creamware A16, except for 1 effect unit, which I would like to connect digitally to the AES/EBU in/output on my Creamware Pulsar 2 Plus.

I have set my Creamware A16 as the master clock, and my Creamware card as slave.
I connected my effect unit (TC Fireworx) to the AES/EBU in and output of my creamware card. I have set up all configurations in the Fireworx like they should be in this case (input and output = AES/EBU, clock sync digital to the signal send via AES/EBU)

Unfortunately the Fireworx doesn't seem to recognise any audio coming into the unit. The input meters don't light up. The unit also indicates that it can not sync to the clock which should have been sended via the AES/EBU.

I allready tried to make the Creamware card the master clock, and slave the TC and the A16, but this also doesn't result in the fireworx syncing.
I also did a test on the Tc Fireworx, to check if the AES/EBU in and output, or anything else in the system isn't broken, but all this seems to be ok.

Seems like there is a problem with the AES/EBU in and output of my creamware card, which could be, because I haven't used them before.
Or is there something I don't see?? Did I forget something in the configuration of my Creamware card??

If anyone has a clue what can be the problem, or what I have forgotten, please reply, because I really would like this to work as it should.. Many thanks in advance!!

Do you see the SP/DIF options in your drop down menu of the hardware choices?

Yes, I can choose between Analog, Aes/ebu, spdif, adat on my hardware effect.. That's also the kind of in and outputs the effect unit has..
I have chosen Aes/ebu because that's what I have connected to the unit..
In my Scope software I have used spdif in and outs, because the manual says to use these for spdif or aes ebu (depends on if you have a classic or a plus card)..
Also when I check in my samplerate menu of the scope software, it recognises that there is something connected to the aes/ebu port (at the slave section), although the light of this blinkers sometimes..

Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be..?
How did other people on this forum who work with the Aes/Ebu in and output of the Scope card set this up in the scope software.. ?

there's not much to set up, in particular...

either Scope or the T/C must be master.

if you set the T/C to slave to AES/EBU, then Scope should be master. you must connect both input AND output cables to the Scope cable whip. you must have both AES/EBU(SP/DIF) Source and Dest modules present in the routing window.

Try it with the TC as master (internal clk).

Should i start with a correct cable impedance of 110 Ohm ?

it has to work unless one or the other piece of hardware is damaged. there is nothing special about connecting AES/EBU, SP/DIF, ADAT or any other digital connection. one device must be master and the other slave. the master device must have it's output connected to the slave's input. do not use a mic cable for AES/EBU, use a digital cable.

That's my shame, i ordered a normal mic cable ... 101 basics ... thanks, i'll retry when i've got all i need !

sure. it should work with a mic cable, just not well.

Clock only seems to show up, no audio in !

Worked fine with this adapter on AES output and SDPIF Input: (consumer format)



And SPIF inputs (TC Fireworx ) now working but not AES input (TC) or output of my cw cards doesn't send anything working on AES pro ... but AES Input of cw card seems to work

keep you posted when i've got the right cable !
