sample oscillator ignorance

I've never been able to get the sample oscillator to work in Modular 3. It always tells me that it can't load the sample that I either drop onto the module or choose through the browser. I know I must be doing something boneheaded, but I've read the manual and fiddled around a lot without any success.
I'm open to mockery for my ignorance, but if someone can help me to get this working quickly, it's worth a little ridicule.

On top of my head: I believe the trick is to only load mono-samples

Ok, I figured most likely I was just being a dolt, but I still can't load samples (mono) into my sample oscillator in modular 3. Preset devices that I've downloaded from this site incorporating the sample oscillator (4 sample gate device) won't open the samples. I tried loading the JD800 waves that I got from planetz and they wouldn't open. I tried short mono samples of my own and they wouldn't open.
Has anybody else had problems with this module?
I don't doubt that I may still be a dunderkopf, but I'm thinking maybe there is something else too. I've always had this problem over multiple installs and I just kinda shrugged and ignored it as there is so much I can do, but it would be nice to get this working. thanks

try to put your samples in the sample pool-module before loading them into the sample osc.

I tried putting the samples in a sample pool -- that part worked fine, but I was still unable to load them into the sample oscillator. I have the same problem with the drum sample oscillator. For example, the modular 3 preset 909 groover will not load properly.

any ideas?

Hmm.. it works here. Are you sure the samples used in that patch are installed on your hdd?
Under "scope settings/Directories" you can point to where Scope should look for the samples needed for that Modular patch.

My understanding is that when one uses a sample pool then the samples are incorporated into the patch and one doesn't need to worry about where the samples are. Just to make certain I exported the samples from the pool and put them in the samples directory -- but that didn't solve the problem. I checked the sample rate to make sure that there wasn't any conflict between the samples and the rates set in scope. That was ok too, but the samples still would not load.
I tried loading the Jaded800 patch from Ben Walker, and it's samples failed to load. I know there is a bug with the wav oscillator that was discussed in this thread

But this seems to be different problem. The samples can't be opened. I vaguely remember the groover patches working in the past, but I've had to go through so many installs (always a clean format between -- argh) before I got to a stable system that I'm not sure if there is some difference. Has nobody else had this problem?
