Hello, I have a Pulsar2 with Scope4.5 installed on a PC with Asus P5q. I can not assign in APIC mode the irq without sharing with the network or the video. I was suggested by Creamware to work in PC Standard mode, or istall first before etc.... I could not install the win xp to PC standard neither from starting on a normal xp install, nor from the preinstalled system.

The bios does not let to choose an IRQ (in APIC enable and System preinstalled in APIC mode) without sharing. When I disable the Atheros onboard in the bios, the irq is on 17 (virtual) but at recording at some points there are cracks, clicks. The same on disable the video card in bios. (so the pulsar is on 16 as irq alone) The recording seems to be good, but in every song (cca.in every 3-4 min or less) there are clicks, and disturbings.


The 9, 10, 3, 7 irq-s are free, but I could not try a way to assign the pulsar for these irqs.

I am on to try it till 2 months, but without a good result... the clicks are there ...

I tryed it with Microsoft Sound Mapper, with Ceamware lay/Rec 1 and 2 to Wavelab, and Asio Scope out from from Cubase Sx 3 in all the combinations - the clicks are there...

Is anybody who can help me? I must give away the mother board, or the audio card?

The newer audio cards has the same problem?

It depends from xp, from apic, from motherboard, or the audio card driver?

you'd give up a $1000 audio card for a $150 motherboard?!!

there are plenty of boards that do work, why not use one of those, or why not disable the network adaptor when doing music, or how about a pci-e network adaptor and disabling the onboard? the problem seems pretty fixable...

and for an asus.... a slight actual gigabyte or abit will do it.

I bought a p5q pro board on the recommendation of the other thread and have made a dual boot system

1 winxp OS for just music - with the Atheros ethernet disabled
1winxp for the internet and all the other stuff

I did find that I was getting occasional pops & clicks in wavelab, on the music OS, when recording using all different wave and scope drivers.
This drove me up the wall and spent hours trying to fix it to no avail - so I went and bought some alcohol to drown my woes - and well, I fixed it, but unfortunately I cant remember for the life of me what I did exactly !

Anyway I finally got round to using wavelab in my other internet OS to record and the pops and clicks are present.
So I am trying to find out exactly what the solution is and will post it when I find it.

Now I know this isn't a great help, but it does let you know that is possible to get the p5q pro working without any clicks at all.

for the wave drivers, you can go into the app(wavelab?) using them and adjust buffer settings.

where can you search for app(wavelab?) ?

where is the app(wavelab?)

what application are you using the wave drivers with? wavelab?

when that application(program) is open, there is a settings or preferences menu where you can make the adjustments.

what PCI latency you have in BIOS ?
i had clicks while using PCI Latency=32, i raised that to 64, everything works fine after

for IRQ sharing, i always install in Standard PC mode while pressing F5 when loading setup

The Asus P5Q I could not set in Standard PC mode till now, only an Asus PB SE.

Anyway in Cubase Sx (3.0) (inside with ASIO) the recording is going well without clicks on APIC mode - as I was counsiled by Garyb first -, and using the Wavelab 5.0 instead of Wavelab 3 or 4 the clicks are reduced, but sometimes are coming recording from somewhere outside (Cubase o Mediaplayer) to Wavelab.

Anyway I don't understand why can not create the Creamware a driver for the card that lets to chose the IRQ in the windows. There are a lot of free IRQs like: 1; 2; 3; 4; 5; 7; 10; 11; 12; 14....

And the Pulsar's IRQ must be shared by Atheros and a PCI adpter on 17 ?? Or in other case on 16 with Video controller, and Standard Universal Host USB...

Or depends that fix IRQ on the Microsoft, or depends on the Asus?...

first, the irq assignment is handled by windows and is determined by the architecture of the motherboard. unfortunately, it has NOTHING to do with the driver. so to answer the last question microsoft AND asus are to blame.

second, if you have those irqs shared with the cards, you should disable a couble of things. the first slot mentioned looks most likely. the Atheros controller is probably ok if you don't use the network with Scope. exactly what pci adaptor is it sharing with in that slot? the other slot shared with video is the last choice. it'd be easy to disable the usb controller in the CONTROL PANEL, but the video adaptor can't be.

There are non extra cards, only the Pulsar 2 in the second slot.

It was coming after diverse trying to be able put in Standard pc mode the system. After I could not install windows in pc standard (there was a point when appears the fastidious blue window with strange messages, and has no possibility to arrive to the end...) so I returned in temoraly mode ->> "modalità provvisoria" (I don't know the exact words in english) and then returned to adjust (correct) windows in APIC mode. So probably has remained something not correct in the system. I think it should be a good idea to format the system and install windows once more again to be clear with the system, and as I remember perhaps I should have the sharing only with Atheros.

The Atheros then I must deactivate in the Bios, everytime when I record, or there is a way to deactivate and reactivate in the windows?
