Still very much a concept sketch. I've always wanted to figure out a way to bring life to fusion style pieces (in the veins of herby) through electro and club style arrangements. Here I put in some punch, and a bit of club lounge style production, with fusion style lines. I won't say I'm a fusion specialist, but I've used the jazz principles I've learned so far in lessons, and combined them with my funk knowledge. End result is quite groovy yet sophisticated / intelligent. Not for mass market, but I think it has good integrity to it, while maintaining a bit of grit and attitude.

I'm calling this concept piece, "hand over your hang overs", obviously playing on the "hang up your hang ups" by herbie. (where the mid section progression comes from)

Perhaps you have stepped into that particular area where the BOOV-BOOV-BOOV crowd finds perplexing.
I think you want a groove but are looking for a 7/8 meter, or perhaps 2 bars of 4/4 with a bar of 2/4 at the tail of a 2 bar 4/4 sequence.
Think of Pink Floyds song Money off of the incredible Dark Side Of The Moon LP. The Bass gives the impression of a 4/4 BOOV-BOOV thingy, but it is a bar of 4/4 followed by a bar of 3/4 that keeps repeating itself over and over.
I loved watching people run to the dance floor when it was played and start grooving only to realise that if they weren't following the bass line they would look silly.

Glad you are finding 4/4 meter unsatisfying. You are taking the path of the most resistance now which will keep you from becoming a zombie of the beat.
I love all meters but only appreciate a simple 4/4 groove after leaving it's brainwashing effect for a 10/8 , 12/8, or 7/8 or 5/4, which then become tiring counting also.
With 4/4 it's just so easy to not have to concentrate on time.
When you get to that point in other meters you are climbing the mountain.
