Dunno if anyone here is into quality Japanese anime, but I thought I'd throw out a recommendation for one of the most amazing series I've ever seen, Kaiba. You can download it here. It's about 3.1GB and you'll need the latest codecs to play it - something like Perian on Mac or CCCP codec pack on Windows.

I'm pretty confident this is one of the most mind-bending, psychedelic and heavily psychological stories you'll ever see. I never thought this genre could be so complex and emotive, even after watching stuff by Shinichirō Watanabe and Hayou Miyazaki. I think it will even appeal to people who don't watch anime at all. It's definitely not a typical violent mecha/cyberpunk series ;)

I love those, plus the music, especially the synth stuff, is always top shelf.

Thanks.

wow, that was a fast download... the episodes are in japanese only, but I found some english subtitles that seem to match here.

Tau - the MKV files have embedded subs so you shouldn't need to download any other stuff :)

 yes, it's true, the subtitles are embedded... I didn't notice that 1st time. Anyway, I'm watching this on a Mac, using VLC seems to work well, even without downloading extra codecs.

The drawings are quite peculiar, they seem to be made with MSPaint at times :) Takes a while to get used to, but once you get into the story, it doesn't really matter much. I'm on episode 4 now, and the plot is still unfolding, but it's quite an interesting story. My only complaint is the theme and credits songs - they're awful, even for anime...

Anyway, I'm enjoying this very much - my thirst for proper sci-fi is temporarily quenched!

Thanks again,

T

Definitely recommend Perian - some of the later episodes simply won't work in VLC.

The style is very unique yes :) This guy's stuff (Masaaki Yuasa) is always very individual and different - his film 'Mind Game' has lots of different styles going on all over the place, and his previous series 'Kemonozume' had a very sketchbook kinda style. Personally I think it's great, most anime follows the same old rules and it gets boring ;) And yep the theme songs are weak :( When you use Perian and QT player, you can jump straight to the episode, skipping the theme song completely.

Glad you like it - it is indeed brilliant sci-fi, most original thing I've seen for years. I think it's around episode 8 that things start to get really crazy...
