Hi, i'm wondering, is there a way to burn a real Akai CD with a PC?
I mean, i'm creating a bunch of programs on my STS3000, and I want to lend those to my friends who appends to have a AKAI S3000 with a CD. How can I burn a CD to the Akai format? I know I can export my programs as Akai S1000/S3000 to my disk, but howdo i create a Akaid CD?

This has been bothering me for a while. I found that I can import about any cd format to Pulsar via CDXtract (including EMU3/4,Kurtzweil, Akai S1000/S3000/S5000/S6000), but export to something other that STS or S1000,S3000 format is impossible.

Any idea or suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

to simplify all of this, buy cdr-win; it is only like $30 . . . and is super easy for this purpose. http://www.goldenhawk.com

Thanks, but I already tryed those programs. And it won't do what i need.

yes, you CAN copy Akai CDs with the first soft (file2disk), but if i have a 40 gigs diskdrive, and i want to take 1 directory of 400 megs to make a real akai CD with the programs of my choice, it won't do it. Also this program is unable to read any IDE device.

Didn't find the solution yet... If I found it, i'll post

Ok, i've done some testing, first I installed a SCSI disk and created a partition of 540meg, like it's said on ice page. Then i downloaded a demo of CDRWIN before buying, a this program doesn't recognize my cdrw

Ok then, i've also tryed my version of my old Yamaha cdrw, EasyCDCreator deluxe 4.02, and it won't recognize my cdrw neither. WinOnCD, the software that come with my Plextor, doesn't recognize the image file done with File2Akai.exe. Now I stuck to finding Nero5 i think. I hope this one works!

Yes, you can save in S1000 or S3000 format. But this is on disk! How can i burn a CD that somebody with the real thing (a.k.a Akai S3000) to use the programs i worked on so hard!

Still searching a solution...

why not mail directly people who certainly know about that?
for example akai themselves, or best service, or another manufacturer of sample cd´s?

good luck, and please report...

Well Mo, they won't help me unles i prove i have a Akai hardware, which i haven't. It exactly for that propose that I need a software to do this. If i had a real Akai sampler, i wouldn't need a software.

nero ought to work if cdr-win did not.
avoid ez-cd creator like the plague . . .

I think the guy wants to use a burning software that can create AKAI discs with the VOLUMES and PARTITIONS, just like a REAL AKAI formatted CD. (only usable by AKAI compatible Hardware)

So, the question remains, is there a burning app that can make such AKAI CD's ?

cdr-win reads AKAI progs, and writes RAW, his burner is just incompatible with the proggie, nero is pretty flexible and should do the task . . .

why not ask at the AKAI list serve?

more OT over there, and they were helpful with answering my questions . . .

You still don't get it, do you?

I will give an example....

1. You find a great sample on one AKAI CD.

2. You find another great sample on another AKAI CD....

3. You find a third program on a third AKAI CD.....

4. You want to make a whole new CD outta those 3 AKAI samples using the AKAI format!!

This (hopefully) helps you guys understand what he wants to do...

we all know nero, cdrwin, EZ can BURN AKAI CD (when copying CD to CD) but how to make a WHOLE NEW AKAI CD was the question....

so please, no more replies like: "... use cdrwin, it can read AKAI CD...."

********************************************************
BTW, THIS IS MY 100:TH POST!!!!

SORRY FOR ALL THE CRAP I MAKE U PUT WITH!

no, i think i get it! (unless i am gravely mistaken). as he has said:

in other words, it sounds as if he has the correct file (made with File2Akai), and cannot burn it because WinOnCD won't read the file, and the apps that will won't work with his drive. it is a matter of finding the right combination of drive and prog, which is why i suggested nero, because it can handle RAW, and is compatible with a lot of burners. partitioning might be another issue, but many akai discs are not partitioned . . .

marcuspocus, why not try the operation on a burner which is compatible with a program which can read an AKAI file?

Ok, a bit of clear up here.

The WinOnCD issues was my fault, didn't RTFM

1 - I AM ABLE TO BURN AKAI CDs IF I HAVE THE IMAGE (from an already existing Akai CD like the one that came with pulsar)

2- I CAN ALSO CREATE AN IMAGE FILE FROM A AKAI FORMATTED HARD DISK DRIVE MY FRIEND MADE WITH HIS REAL AKAI S3000.

3 - I am NOT able to compile a NEW image file from scratch.

I want to do this :
a) I create a programs with STS3000
b) I export to S3000 format on my drive
c) Format a SCSI HDD to Akai format (I found that Translator from Chicken Systems can do that)
d) Put my programs (.P + lots of .S) on this akai formatted HDD (yes, with akai partitions and volumes)
e) Extract an image file from this HDD to burn with any CDR soft compatible with RAW DATA (And WinOnCD AND my burner are FULLY compatible with this, i did try to copy an image file i made with 'File2disk.exe' from the pulsar Akai CD and it worked, with partitions and volumes)
f) Finnaly BURN this image to CD

As you can see, i have evolved from being unable to do anything, to the point the ONLY thing that's stopping me is that i CAN'T add my programs to the Akai formatted HDD.

I miss ONLY the -=> D <=- point.

Once done i'll clearly document the procedure to help ALL the people who need to backup and exchange their STS programs that they put so much time doing it right.

Thanks to all for the time you've already taken helping to solve this...

Much appreciated, really.

Well excuse me if I am out of my depth here, but are you able to see the AKAI HDD-partition from within Pulsar-environment ? If so, it makes sense to me that you should be able to cut and paste your .p and .s files to it ??? No ?

(sorry if that was a silly suggestion  )

I dunno, I thought that CD-extract should be able to help you out here. Haven't tried myself, by my local musicshop says its the answer to all problems in the entire universe

Cheers

Well, no, Pulsar browser only see CDrom. But CDXtract, which i buyed for the same reason (my local dealer told me it should save the world  ) does see the HDD with its partition and volumes etc.

Pulsar is able to see the volumes and partitions of the copy i was able to make using the procedure above. So, it's really up to the point where only the D point is missing.

I've downloaded 'Chicken System Translator' demo, and this one seems to do the trick. But it's a bit expensives at 149US$ It's the price of a P3-1ghz!

Man! This is frustrating! There's a TINY ditch separating me from doing it right!

I won't let go, and find a way!

(or i'll wait the next paycheck and buy this f...)

Hmmm, let me get this straight :

Pulsar can see what is on a AKAI formatted CD. right ?
Pulsar can copy/paste AKAI formatted data from AKAI-CD (.p and .s) to "normal" formatted HDD-partitions. right ?
Pulsar can NOT see what is going on on an AKAI-formatted HDD partition, and therefore not copy/paste to it. right ?

If so, it seems like an obvious case for the wish-list, personally I would have troubles buying something to 149$ from a company called "Chicken"... , after all, it is a small job you can not do as it is

Maybe CW can still add this feature to ver. 3.0, or maybe they have to keep it as it is, so that naughty people can not make illegal sample-compilations very easy ?

Cheers
