broken A16

Hiya,

I own an A16 Creamware converter. Not a A16 Ultra, but the very first one. Yes, it's old, I know. But it does the trick. However, the ADAT A section has completely dropped out. Doesnt work anymore.

*Does anyone recognize this problem? If yes, what could be the possible cause?
*Is there any way to obtain blueprints of the electronic circuit?

Best,
Manoah

it's probably the internal supply lines to that section - a bad solder joint or a broken electrolytic buffer cap.
the good news is that you can find the source fairly easily because the unit is split into 2 halves. You can do reference measures at the working one.
Afaik there's no circuit diagram available, but for 'standard' maintainance you don't need it. It's about the 'usual suspects' of power supply, broken caps, rectifiers and regulators. You can't do much about the digital section with the PAL thing anyway.

Just be fu**ing careful with the soldering iron as the lines are very, very thin and there's a lot of interconnection between the top and bottom layer of the board.
did you run yours with or without fan ?

cheers, Tom

When I plunged it open, i saw that the fan was jammed. And it was jammed because having it mounted for years and years in my 19" rack has caused the mounting plates to bend, and together with that, also a bit of the side.

so I guess i have to install a new fan too :-)

Anyway, thanks for your help, going to try to fix it, keep ya updated if you like..

Best,
Manoah
