 Hi all! I'm not trying to kid you but simply showing my personal experience with this card.

I can't use and assign nothing more than "Luna Playback1,2" either in Cubase or Gigastudio.

Cubase says (with its complicated pop-up box) that "Luna Playback 3,4" or 5,6 or 7,8 simply do not exist, even if listed in the available device: i have a proof of this trying to run the tuning test for buffer, sync and so on.

Gigastudio says that Luna is NOT Gsif compatible and do not allow to assign an output different from 1,2.

I have:
- setup 8 output in luna device management
- setup 8 GSIF output in Luna Project

but it seems not affect.

What am i supposed to do to activate the multichannel feature of my Luna?

Thks in advance

I'm a pulsar user, so i don't know if this is the same, but i double click the asio drivers and set how many channels i need and wala

I use Giga Studio 160 with Luna, and i have my 16 output, and Luna IS Gsif compatible.

Use Recording mixer, put Gsif module with 16 out, Asio module with 8 out, and 24 in, connect all this thru the mixer, start Giga, configure the sequencer button to launch Cubase, restart Giga, launch cubase, and voila...

Forget the wave driver and directX driver, the only use of this is playing with fruittyloop, playing a CD, DVD or recording with a single wave in devices thru Wavelab (or SoundForge...)

You can use directx plugin in cubase without directx driver, this is only for games etc...

DON'T BOTHER WITH WAVE DRIVERS

Hi Marcus, thks! It sound as a complete good solution. I never tried to launch cubase from gigastudio but there must be a stability reason for sure. I'll post the tips if it can result interesting.

Yup as said above, just realize you have to have the drivers loaded before you start your programs - they are in the "Windows Devices" folder inside Luna. The ones you're looking for are "GSIF" modules, and "ASIO" modules. djody covered how to add more channels, it should be the same for Luna as it is for Pulsar.

You may want to setup all the drivers you use regularly and save that setup with your personal "standard" routing as "Windows Default" and/or "Background Project." (View>Settings I think).

Hi all, it's so interesting partecipating a forum! Thks for all your answer.

As promised, I tried the Marcuspocus solution. It worked but only for the first time.

The next Win98 startup gave the same distorted sound with GIGASTUDIO + CUBASE (GIGASTUDIO perform correctly if alone ). I'm desperated because also all ASIO operation (recording/playing back) got disabled.

I assigned Luna Playback 1,2 to CUBASE and Luna Playback 3,4 to GIGA, then tried also with 5,6 and 7,8.

Another strange behavior I've noticed is the "launch sequence" of GIGA and CUBASE.

If tried to run 1st GIGA and 2nd CUBASE ( in both mode: [1]run giga, click on sequencer button or [2]run giga, start, program, CUBASE) but whit this sequence GIGA freeze when trying ALT+TAB among the two application.

If I run CUBASE then GIGA I can switch among them freely but the sound gets distorted.

Further more, sometimes at the WIN98 startup I run Luna, load my project but can get no output, the mixer receive the various sound source but the analog out seems to be not activated.

Can someone takes me out this mobile sand?

It seems to me that the software is a bit unstable.

I work with a PII-350, 256Megs.

Best regards

Well, I'm sure of this, the only way to see the midi port of giga in cubase, is launching cubase from giga.

And P2 350 - 256megs ram is a little short for using giga.

I've made a setup this week-end for one of my friend. He had a P3-550 + P3B-F + 256megs, and with Giga, all sort of problem arise. He change his gear for Athlon 1.2 + Asus A7M266 + 512megs DDR and all the problem's gone.

Not sure, but maybe it's that. Else, can't help more. Sorry.

Hi Marcus,
thks for your always kind answer.

I knew my setup is quite "poor" but I decided to invest 500$ for a Luna after I saw my soundblaster live ( on the same pc ) capable of running ( with aps live ) CUBASE with 10 midi tracks (via GIGASTUDIO) and 10 audio tracks.

Why can't I get the same risult with a more professional audio card such as Luna?

Why the distortion? Why the ASIO disabling?

I understand I can't get excellent performance but for my topics ( i'm trying to record a personal demo CD )should be ok to play 3/4 instr and 3/4 audio tracks!

I don't want to make u loose your time, if u can't answer i understand!

Best regard and thks again

Hi Raboz, send me a screen shot of your luna setup, i'll look at it and make suggestion, maybe build a setup for you. Yes your right, you should be able to make ~10 midi tracks thru giga while playing in Cubase. Personnally I don't you cubase but logic, but should be the same.

I'll check. I'm shure to be able to make a minimum to work good on this. But don't expect 30 tracks, nor a polyphony of +64 with Giga...!

And you DID check the FAQ at
for optimizing windows? Do exactly as the FAQ describe. It work very well for me. It is kind of a reference when I do a setup, i use it as a checklist.

send your printscreen at

With a 7200RPM hard disk and ~500mhz, you should be able to get 16 tracks pretty smoothly after tweaks on a Luna. Heck I bet you could get that many with only a 5400RPM disk too...

Hi all! Thks for you help.
Combining the answers I've solved the problem.
As Marcus said, it's a matter of Processor Speed. I've overclocked my PII-350@465, then I followed the suggestion regardin the launch of CUBASE within GIGASTUDIO: it really works. The misunderstanding derived from the time GIGASTUDIO takes to become available after the launch of CUBASE.

It seemed to me that if freezed but if you ( or better, me in my personal case ) wait for at least 1 minute, it will return available.

If it could be interesting I'll post the performance test of a PII-350@465 running LUNA+GIGA+CUBASE i.e. how many tracks, etc.

Best regards to all of you

Hi Subhuman, thks for the suggestion
I did a check on the site, I applied all the tips ( thks again to Marcus Pocus )where possible amd now system runs smoothly.

The problem could be the GIGASTUDIO search engine that seems to try to rearrange the GIG search list or perhaps rearrange the midi/audio port. After it completed this "ghost task" ( i don't seet it cause the application-focus,as said, returns after a minute ) you can run other softwares and it takes the normal time.

I'm no longer "desperated", if the bug gets unfixed it's ok, but if I can fix I get..happier!

Thks in advance
