Some info!

In the second photo down, you can see Modular II running on the second-from-left screen, and in the bottom picture, you can see four A16s racked up. He also mentions Scope very favourably in the article as well!

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Oct02/a ... zimmer.asp

But, and I spoke to the author of both of these articles (who works with Hans), they stopped using CW stuff a couple of years ago. They certainly haven't gone all NI on us though! You can read about the bespoke sample playback software that Mark wrote for Hans here:

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jul07/a ... irates.htm

Basically, they went 64bit on account of the ludicrous sample library that Hans had built up over years (at 16-bit/44.1kHz) - but which he then decided he wanted to re-record... at 24-bit/88.2kHz. (You can read all about that in the second link - suffice it to say, it was not a trivial thing to undertake!)

When that happened, Scope had to go! I think I've mentioned this in another thread, but at one point Hans had something like 14 45-DSP Scope rigs. That's 630 DSPs!!!

Cheers,

Chris

I think he must have kept at least one rig, surely... not like he needs the money or anything :P

yup, i kinda raead up to that, the STS rigs was out of this world ;)

I guess i could still ask any mucician if he still use the AKAI format and have his friends rape me, but im actually curious if he still use some of his old hardware his own pleasure (hah, i know how his studio/interms work :) )

and he really should put some of those 630 in the purchase departement, however licenced they are ;)

ok im a sucker for words;

does he still use it for synths?

It's quite possible! Can't say I know the answer to that one though, I'm afraid.

I do know, though, that he had some synths custom-made by one high-profile synth designer... (one of those synths is mentioned in the top link in my first reply).

I also know that both he and Mark really enjoyed using Scope - a HELL of a lot! And they still acknowledge that there's nothing that quite compares to it in terms of its low-level audio routing, and synth quality. There are a couple of other reasons for them not using Scope anymore, but it's not really my place to say (and besides, the 64-bit thing really is, by a very large margin, the main and most significant reason for it. I think it was also a matter of timing: native synths were rapidly improving in quality, CPU speed had increased by an order of magnitude, there was the odd stability issue when they upgraded a few things... actually, that's pretty much it!)

Cheers,

Chris

Oops - you posted before me!

I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised to find he plans to use a few things that grew out of Scope technology, when it's released...

Which is something like 4 X-ite1s ... just to put into perspective the power of that beast!

Stardust - do you have any links to JMJ talking about Scope. I've never heard of that.

I didn't know about the JMJ endorsement - tell you what though, he doesn't need another synth. His collection is actually quite disgusting.

Yes it is thank you.

I betcha a hunderd bucks Heir Zimmer will be using Solaris. I bet his serial number is closer to " 000 " than my mine too.

His article about Scope being his secret weapon, and GaryB's build reputation throughout the community sold me.

Cool Link Dusty.
