Hi all! It's the first time in my life I access a forum and I do apologize in advance if I can appear not "forum-educated".
I'm a Lunarian and I would like accessing the huge world of soudfont samples available on the net and so I would purchase(I'm a very limited budget lunarian) a used SBlive.
Question:
A) Can Luna II and SBlive coexist?
B) Which module in my project provides me the synth - sound?
C) If no module exist i can always try a S/PDIF connection among the two card but Emu processor has a fixed 48Khz output but I wanna keep my old project at 44.1Khz, still record at 44.1Khz and so on. Is it possible?
Thks for all your kindly anwer O:-)

the answer to A is yes...
i just installed my luna II yesterday and there were no conflicts...
i'm running the low latency drivers (
http://come.to/sblive), but will probably switch back, as the luna's midi capabilities will crush that of the sblive's.
as for question B, you'll probably need to purchase one of the synths for that (check creamware.com to get your head beat on some software

)
question C i'll leave to someone else.
peace

A) frankie got that one!
B) Also check out the "devices" area here on PlanetZ for some free synthesizer plugins.
C) Possible but you'll want to work at 48Khz in that case.

There is indeed a lot of very good free synth here, the LoFi is pretty coOl, the saturn is FAT and Pad are great sounding, the TB303 clone is really cool for cruchy, funky fat bassline, and there's a couple more. Try them BEFORE buy at creamware, cuz you'll find they're filling alot of needs.
If you need to play wav from Luna, the only one that working for free in luna is the SDS (Sample Drum Player), other, even if they are free to download need the sampler player from pulsar.
If you want alot of synth and effects at the same time, and don't like the free ones, buy the Modular2 first, you won't be disapointed. It's very complete, fun to use, and so much patchs to download it'll take a week to try them all, not even talking of all the presets!
(hehe! 6 messages from Pulsar Geek!)

Hi all, thks for the complete answer!
I do apologize but I didn't explain well my needs!
I said "Which module in my project provides me the synth - sound" but I meant "Which module in my project provides me the SOUNDBLASTER synth - sound" !
I downloaded and tried many excellent free plug-in but I need to use SoundFont bank in my Luna Project.
Best regards

Soundcard destination.
Use the midi from your SBLive, connect the Soundcard source to the recording mixer. But you'd probably be better off with the STS3000 wich play SoundFont directly.
With no latency a very good quality, + soundfont can be as big as your RAM. In SBLive, i think your limited with the memory on the card. Am i wrong?

Dear Marcus, thks for the answer.
Yes, SoundBlaster is limited to the amount of Ram.
At the moment I can't afford STS3000 but when I'll get more expert in using Luna and soundfont I'll evaluate the purchase.
Best Regards

trust me, becoming an expert with soundfonts is *way* harder than using the sts series. i have the volkzsampler, and it is a breeze to use in comparison with the vienna soundfont studio . . .
i expect you to be tossing the live out of the window in the near future (or of it to a friend as i did). seriously though, the sts is intuitive.
and i think you want the soundcard source, and not the soundcard dest.

i use a sblive together with pulsar1.
no problems...
Connect the cards with spdif. (48khz only)
use the spdif modules for your audio.
goto:
http://come.to/sblive
here you'll find asplive drivers which work way better then the creativedrivers.
only one negative point about those drivers.
SFont space is only 32 MB. with the creative drivers you have almost your complete ram available.

Thks to all of you for the kind answers
Summaring I understand that:
A) Coexistence is possible
B) There are 2 way of accessing the SOUNDBLASTER synth:
B.1 Via "SoundCard Source" Module
B.2 Via "S/PDIF Source Module"
I would like keep recording my audio track at 44.1Khz not a 48Khz while singing midi tracks via SoundBlaster. In which case ( B1 or B2 ) is it possible?
Cheers

none of the answers are workable at 44khz.
if you use the sound module you have to much delay (latency)
spdif module is only usable when you have the same resolution (48khz sblive fixed)
i suggest you start working at 48khz and convert all your old tracks...
I never done converting but i think its possible...

Hi All

Algorythm suggested the usage of STS3000 instead of SOUNDBLASTER due to its perfect integration in Luna II.
Following the suggestion, I read the articles on CreamWare site and they say "STS3000....almost a hw sampler ... just 1-2 ms of latency". Here I got really confused! If the minimum ULLI setting is 3 ms how can I get 1ms with STS3000? Can someone help this neophyte?
Thks in advance dear all

Oh! Oh! Lemme try that one
Luna has SHARC® DSP chips which process audio with only a few sample delay (exactly like a hardware synth/sampler/effects box). If the audio doesn't pass through any drivers, the Luna(/Pulsar/SCOPE) reacts identically to a piece of hardware.
So, if you plug a MIDI cable into the Luna, and a Stereo 1/4" cable Out of Luna, (or SPDIF or Zlink), you can trigger and use it exactly as you would a hardware synth or sampler. No latency.
Software Routing in this case would look like "Luna Midi Source" -> "STS3000", then "STS3000 Audio Outputs" -> Any Luna Hardware Out, through a mixer, effects, etc.
Another really awesome thing that you can do for example, is connect, say, an outboard effects box on the SPDIF loop on your Luna, and use it as an Aux send from the Luna Mixer -- still you would get virtually zero latency -- as long as you're monitoring directly out a hardware output on the Luna, and everything is freely routable.
It takes a little bit for the flexibility and possibilities here to sink in for most people, so feel free to ask more questions.

why not get the sts demo and c 4 yerself?
