mastering projects

Post by JyGius »

Hi all!

I see that there isn't any scope project for mastering.
Could someone share some project? I'd like to see your recipes
about PsyQ, Optimaster, Vinco (too much "character 4 master ?!?!?")...and so on...

Thanks

Vinco in rms mode yielded good results for me. While some include Psyq in their mastering chain, I wouldn't do that. The idea of the mixing process is to get everything to sound as close as possible to the ideal you're after. It's time to spice up tracks to your liking, try creative combinations and be inventive. Mastering is about the final calibration of the master, and should be (imo) as unintrusive as possible, and ideally conducted in another location than where the mixing was done. One thing to do absolutely is to listen to your mixes on a wide variety of systems, without touching the settings (to hear what people hear). It will not sound good on every system, but we have to find the right balance that sits on the average point of all the systems. And also consider the place where your music is likely to play...

Loudness is overrated, and overcompression makes some music unlistenable for me... I often just turn it off after 2-3 songs, because it has an abrasive and irritating quality. That's imvho, of course, which is only mine...

Bob Katz says that for a music to sound good, one should expect it to be a 6 db less loud than the competition...
