I like to play with the lights off. This is from an improvisation I did recently in the dark. I did edit it a little but mostly this is the way it came out.

Playing this one in a loop....This is some of the most inspired music ever posted here IMHO.

I am thinking of trying to add a chamber orchestra to this if you don't mind.
Long project though... I would rather send the orchestra MIDI to you so you could use your orchestra sounds which are much better than mine

That is very complimentary. Thank you so much for your comments. I was thinking about adding some chamber orchestra too but then I thought maybe I should leave it alone and use as an interlude in a longer piece for some variety.

I'm been improvising a lot and I would recommend it for anyone. The goal should be to play without making any conscious decisions. It unusually takes a few minutes of playing before I forget that I am recording it. I do remember thinking a couple of times I was playing too much in the middle of the keyboard so I played some high and low notes; then I thought that was cheating, but it sounded good so I left it in. I particularly like the ending because it sounds like it ends, then it comes back in with a chromatic minor third phrase which to me sounds like a question. This line is directly from a chromatic minor third piano exercise which I invented many years ago when I was a teen. At the time, I found it amusing but not particularly musical, it is uniquely mine. It's funny how some of the early things you learn stick with you the most.

Paul, You don't need to waste time on my music. I know you are a very gifted composer yourself. Perhaps we can be a part of a movement though, as I know you have an interest in modern classical music. There is an annual competition you might want to enter by the Millennium Chamber Players:

You play as though you've had formal training. No noticable clunkers and the dynamics and rhythms sound well prepared.

What kind pf Piano did you use?

I thought I heard a mic being used up and down the harp in the one section where the distance seemed very close in the mid range.

I play an East West Bösendorfer piano rompler sequenced in Cubase 4.13. I did some editing, not on every note though and it is quantized.

What caused the distance I heard ?

Reverb or release sampled ambience?

I am interested because Giga has a mic modelling setting in Gigapukse that gives it a percieved distance, which is great when doing Orchestral sruff. One can use the IR's and Mic Modelling to give the different libraries a better placement in the stereo field, which ion turn emulates the way an Orchestra sits in front of the conductor.

You should keep posting your stuff.

It's midi quantizing. There are no audio tracks. The tempo track makes it sound more natural and I can't emphasize this enough; careful attention to velocity detail! The reverb is Cubase Roomworks. I love the way effect sends work in Cubase because it just takes me a few seconds to set one up.

Their reverbs have come a long way since the more metallic days of Cubase VST.

Cubase has come a long way. It used to suck.
