MTC Sync to Mac

Hi all,
I have tried syncing via MTC, my Scope PC (as master) running logic, synched to my MAC running Ableton Live. It has not produced very good results with Ableton playing in very bad time. Has anybody any advice to diagnose what may be the problem? I feel there are lots of things involved in this process - Logic settings on PC, Scope Settings, on PC, RME Fireface settings on MAC (which connects the two), Word clock?, Ableton settings on MAC, cabling etc.

I just wonder what the most likely culprit could be, given that is is definitely working, just working badly...

thanks
rich

Same thing happens to me using Reaper and Live - they go in sync, but in Live, playback is very jumpy. I would need both programs to go in sync when multitracking in VDAT, for ex., or bouncing tracks from one DAW to another.

What I do is to leave 4 bars empty at the beginning (or just start playback a few bars earlier than the point I want to start recording), and set both programs to the same tempo. Press play on the Master (Reaper) with Live in EXT sync. Live starts playback in sync, and as soon as it picks up the pace, I turn the EXT sync off, and they both run independently (free), but still in sync. Sound is then normal.

This is just a workaround, I know, and it will work only in the most basic scenarios, such as described above. But I hope it helps.

If you're using a recent version of Live, it can also help to tweak the MIDI port's properties in the preferences page (things like frame rate, driver type, etc.) I never had much luck with that, but it doesn't mean you won't ;)

All the best,

T
