"Hardware Version 16" error still, with my cards

In windows xp,
I think I had one of my two Creamware cards seated badly in the slot, and started getting the error messages, "Hardware version 16 detected ..." followed by the "cannot start scope hardware" one.
For awhile, there was an "unkown device" entry in the system manager that chose the scope driver when I went to update the driver.
I took the cards out, and got rid of the extra device entry, also deleted the creamware entries from the registry ( because the uninstaller wouldn't run ).
Also removed the scope entry from the startup menu.
What else to I need to do, to get rid of the messages and reinstall my cards?
