I made a joke that I would want to steel the xite-1 from the soniccorebooth.
But I can`t believe that there are people around that are so crazy and hard-boiled to do this in real world.

when I left Messe, noone checked the content of my gigbag...
it would have been no problem to exchange the bass somewhere, so I assume the same applies to a synth flightcase.

musikmesse is well-known for this stuff... there are no checks at the exits. Pretty harsh on the companies who exhibit - I don't think the fees for having a booth there are very cheap!

It was probably stolen at the very end of the expo (last day). When everyone starts leaving on the last day of any major exhibition I've been to (which is in the 100's), a strange peroid of chaos begins. When it starts & the situation turns a bit crazy because of exhibitors still leaving at the same time as stand/booth contractors coming in to break down, just about anything can happen. Things just disappear.

dark, the fees for having a booth at any expo aren't cheap! Very expensive business.

You have to feel for small companies that don't have expo specific support from there governmental trade & industry organisations, but then most actually do if they're on-the-ball.

yeah it can get insanely chaotic at these shows. As well as the danger during normal hours, gear on stands is a sitting duck overnight between days (usually these shows run for several days). It only takes 1 dodgy security guard.

Yep shroomz there are some government subsidies for this kind of thing, but I don't think it ever comes close to covering the full cost does it?

Dark, I think it gets pretty close to full, maybe about 80/90% at some shows, but not necessarily at all shows. That's based on what I know about UK & Scottish involvement in exhibitions though, so I'm not saying it's the same everywhere. Look at it this way... they aren't going to fund the building & installation of a bespoke exhibition stand for a private company, but they'll surely foot most of the bill for a small, very basic space which company's just fill with some graphic prints & gizzmos. It's all about exporting their countries' products after all & I guess that's why most exhibitions (athough not all) are divided into country blocks.

Yeah, it was 100's for sure. I worked for 5 years in the exhibition trade, living mostly out of a suitcase.

Anyway, there's ways to make the most of the insanity. I just need to find one.

My experience in dealing with Ebay and the Police is that they won't be looking very hard and nobody will be caught.

This easter one of my colleague had a burglary at his home.
Among ot a laptop with a web camera was stolen.
A friend noticed him that he was connected to Skype - so he called a pc-nerd!
Guess what, with a little help of a bait (a false bankacount number) and a little flash device (dont ask how) the got the thief to connect to a website and got a 30 second film of him. He had a good time, verry high on acid adn eating chocolate.
The police knew him well

What does one get for stealing an old unique synth? Legally it's not different from a 2000eu tv set, so unless the thief has a nice history, he likely won't get much but a fine and some probation...

I'm not sure there's a proper word for the degree of stupidity of that person. I suspect he's a regular visitor of the Messe on different events, looking for stuff not secured too much for take-away, since any music lover would know the kind of attention such a Moog would draw on ebay... which largely contributes to our amusement of course
