Greetings Experts,

I have a Mac running OS9.2.2 with a Pulsar II board installed that I have been running for a few years now. Something has happened to Scope Fusion Platform, Software which suddenly will not open. I cannot reinstalll from the CD - when I try to open "allkeys.skf" -on the the "Import from File" page, I get the messsage " REGISTRY - cannot open registry file"

....and round and round we go.....

I have used all of the normal disc unitilies that I have here which is the Norton pak + Disc Warrior which have so far (since getting this card in 2002), worked fine.

Thank you in advance for reading this I appreciate any and all input and suggestions

goodvibes~

did you rename the disk on which Scope is installed (or a folder in the SFP path), possibly unintenionally, like the disk icon was selected and something hit the 'space' key ?
afaik Scope on Mac is very name sensitive, I vaguely remember something related to 'spaces' in pathnames - which is kind of funny as file names are pretty irrelevant in the original Mac OS ;)

you may look for the file 'scope.rgy', that's where it wants to write the keys to, usually found in disk:sfp:application:bin
if the file is missing, create an empty textfile and call it scope.rgy (in fact it is nothing but a textfile) and try the import again

good luck, Tom

Hi Tom

thanks - yes, the disk upon which Scope resides DID get unnamed due to unintentional mousclicks....the other error message that I get is :cannot find "alloc"

I will try your suggestion too - I assume the text file youu suggest should go in the Scope folder?

thanks man!

alloc is a file which should be in your extensions folder after installing Scope.
If you have your scope running again think of backing up a few files, see http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic ... calmachine

I hear you...have checked out everything I can, it is all there - and yet it is not there. I mean you can see it but it still will not act right - nothing seems to allow me to reinstall - if it is not one thing, it is another, most consistent one is the aforementioned ":cannot open registry file"

so...thinking in reverse, what do you think of this?: Trash everything Scope related on the hard drive (G4 OS9.2.2) - manually go into the Extensions folder and find everything Scope related there and Trash all of that stuff - and then try again from the disc?

There must be some way of being directoy in touch with Creamware..or would that be a mistake?

thanks......all, very much

yes, trash all, also that file in the preferences folder.
If you have files to be kept (presets, projects, Devices, etc.,) backup them for re-use after re-install.
Prepare an empty Scope folder right on 'top' op de harddisk, and point the installer to t5hat folder.

OK cool hubrid I am with you....I feel tentative - this means that in order to finish the instaltion I am going to have to be in touch with Creamware to get my keys again - correct? Spotty trying to communicate with them, from what I remember. Just asking so I know what to expect

thanks again

just a suggestion which may or may not be helpful, but is worth a try...

the allkeys file not being accepted can happen on a pc when there's already a scope folder present in some circumstances.

try trashing the scope.rgy(it's the same as your allkeys) and cset.ini files(or whatyever the naming counterpart on the mac is) and then see if you can import the allkeys file.

well, don't be too fast... ;)
first of all rename the disk to what is was before

if the 'alloc' extension wasn't in place (or active), then you will of course get a lot of nonsense processing because (as the name implies) 'alloc' is a crucial part of the memory management (afaik a part of the runtime of a specific developement system)
as Hubird wrote is belongs into the extension folder within the system folder and the machine must be rebooted to activate the code - extensions are only loaded during boot time.
Without that extension the system cannot do anything (reasonable).

Do a file search for the 'scope.rgy' and open it with a text editor... can you see a list of registraton codes or is it empty ?
Usually the installation creates an empty scope.rgy in sfp/application/bin
if the file isn't corrupted (a word processor would show garbage then), then there's few reason why it shouldn't be accepted if it's located in the afformentioned directory - OS 9.2.2 is a piece of poo on it's own, but nevertheless it's still a Mac and not a Windoze box juggling with file attriburtes, access permissions and such stuff it cannot handle... :P :D

cheers, Tom

Thanks Tom

welll....too late, I trashed everything....and now remembering (I think?
) that in order to reinstall one must place much of the stuff manually (?true) in the system folder ....such as The Driver? etc etc must be - because it will not do it on it's own (attempt to reintall software - Driver first in this case

somehow I installed it and got it to work years ago and have been using it every day since so...sheesh...lost rightr now

this should not take mor than a day or 2.... :x

I hope

thanks for your time and help I do sincerely appreciate!

it is clear now I this will not work - the disc will not install the driver nor will manually dragging gthe driver into the Extensions folder work, it is not recognized by The Scope Install Disc upon installation attempt.

At this stage I ask anyone for suggestions in interfacing with the manufacturer, as though I were new and never owned this product before.. I have never been able to get a response. Does anyone know a secret someone at Creamware Deutschland?

thanks very much

Hm, weird problem you have here.
As Tom says, the mac OS is forgivable.
Your disk isn't too full?
You could try to temporary move the OMS folder out of the system folder and the OMS extension from the ext. folder.
If you remove all Creamware files from your harddisk(s), the install disk just should install, unless the disk is broken.
Search for CW drivers on your disk(s) to remove.
No backup systemfolders anywhere hanging around? (normaly no problem, but...)

Please, start it all over, deleting all old files anywhere, and start installing again.
Describe exactly what happens, how far do you get it, and what messages do you get in what stage of the process.

well thank you hubird!

here is where I am: I completely deleted the old system 9.2.2 and installed a new sys 9.2.1 as I read here or somewhere that COPE performs better under this os 9.2.1 - ?

all seems to be going well! It recognized the allkeys file

the progress bar is completed - but the computer is stuck on "Presets"/Poison.pre

only option is to "Cancel" - so I hit Cancel - then it asks if I really want to ? etc so I Cancel the Cancel and that takes me back to the prev page which shows all of the key codes next to the Effects, etc.

so I do it again

same result - progress bar/install takes 4 minutes to compete - stuck on "presets" page - starting with "Poisen.pre

stuck

thanks Hubird! I appreciate your time

if anything happens I will post,

EM

progress: Mac freezed up....so I restarted....the Scope installation put a foler called "App" on the selected HD....inside "App" there is what looks like all SCOPE contents - cannot open however because (error message) "alloc cannot be found"

should I simply find a copy of "alloc" and drop it in the new System Extensions folder?

thanks~

I am going thru the same routine now as I was when this ship went down

have "alloc" installed

now it wants (and cannot find "CrossDev.dII"

does anyone know what CrossDev.dII" is, or where it may be found?

thanks

CrossDevII belongs in the extension folder, but the installer should put it there.
if you have the file somewhere around you can use it, but when the installing process isn't finished anyway this makes no sense.
It's somewhere on your installer disk also.

I have Scope running fine on OS9.2.2, it's long time ago I installed it, so your move to 9.2.1 could help and doesn't harm.
Update it later, your OMS version could make problems (?).

Did you create a folder named 'Scope4' (or your version number) on your harddisk to point to when the installer asks?
What's the alternative answer when the poison presets are in turn?
cancel seems a non-decision to me.

The install disk can be broken, does it show scratches?

(I'm sick, I'm not continuously at my comp., sorry).

sorry for your trouble, Edmann...
the point is that Creamware never really had an idea about the Mac version - it's a port from the PC and so some 'PC concepts' were moved into the Mac world.

The worst thing is the installer app itself, as it simply isn't really needed
it does nothing but copy a handful of files into some directories - there's no registry on the Mac or any other system part the 'Installer' has to deal with.
I've tried it once and it's a pretty unreliable fellow anyway.

I remember having trouble with Creamware's own version once, which didn't even detect my card. I switched to an older CD where a 'standard' installer app was used (forgot the name) and that one worked out of the box.
Anyway, it seems a bit difficult to tell under which circumstances it will succeed and what 'distracts' it on it's way.
Then there is a deep change in Apple's system software between 9.1 and 9.2 - you don't see it as a user but the internals of the OS are heavily changed.

To be honest I was pretty surprised once Hubird wrote about his success to install his system under 9.2.2, even more as the machine he uses is the most wiered piece of Apple gear that ever crossed my way - and I deal with that stuff for > 20 years... :D

what Apple machine do you use ?
you may go back to an older version of the Mac OS, version 9.0 or 9.1
boot from a CD and install with the option 'make a new system folder', which will rename your current one and keep it as it is.

try the creamware installer - if you run it from a cd and it fails, make a copy to the harddisk - sometimes it has trouble reading the CD during install.
The installer seems to progress faster than it can retrieve the data or something like that...
it should place the 2 extensions (alloc and crossdev) into their respective folders
if the installer fails again we can use another option, don't worry :)

cheers, Tom

Thank you guys for all of your input, the situation is more clear to me now. This is the 1st time I have ever tried reinstall with the OWC upgraded processor, so maybe that is it.

My machine is a G4 466 upgraded to a.1.2 Ghz with an OWC processor. 1.5 Gig RAM

In any event, it sounds like one could do the entire "installation" Manually - (drag and drop) - correct?

i have searched the entire Creamware disc and no CrossDev.dII comes up....

Before I reinstalled a new system, "CrossDev.dII was just one of a gazillion questions that I had to answer to the disc installer....

maybe it is time to move thing in to a pc - Scope II runs better on a PC - correct?

thanks very much

feel better hubird

I just searched Manually thru the Scope Install disc - no CrossCev.dII

it must be an extension that is created during the install process.

I do not imagine it is very big - if anyone feels up to it, has CrossDev.dII in their extensions folder, and is will to email it to me - here is the address:

emann1@berkshire.rr.com

I appreciate it very much!

best wishes
