tax question for US people

I did my taxes last year for the first time, and did it through HR block.. this year, I'm thinking of doing it through TurboTax or something similar.. has anyone had experience with this? Something about doing it alone that worries me. Not that I'd be getting less refund, but if I don't know what I'm doing, how can I fill out the forms? I don't run a business, so that shouldn't complicate things.. Or do you think it's just better to go through HR block? Any info appreciated.

I've used turbotax every year for the last 5 years or so.
Always works great, and I do trust it.

I remember the days of actually reading all the goverment instruction books, and filling out the forms by hand. Insane! Forget it!

With turbotax, you go through the interview, enter your info, and just print it out and sign it.

Not sure how much HR Block costs. I bought Turbotax deluxe with state for like $30.

Cheers,
-John

Turbo Tax misses things with re: to small business expenses and things like subcontracting.

It's fine for basic income tax calculations, but still misses things.

...and, of course, remember that income tax is actually illegal :)

i use complete tax. it's a very well run program. it asks questions and then asks for the information based on the questions. you don't have to install any software or pay anything until you submit the forms to the tax "authorities".

the thing is Ken, you likely will owe nothing anyway. you may be able to fill out the 1040ez form and receive a full refund of your withholding.

thanks for the info. Was just wondering if it was one of those "overly well marketed products" that actually has a long history of problems. Will look in to "complete tax". thnx everyone! It's always hard to figure out what's right from wrong when you're doing it on your own. (that's why I ask friends I trust)
