PZers,

I have just upgraded my system to an Intel DP35DP with a Q6700 and 4GB of RAM and XP. So far it seems to be a screamer, which is good since I hope this is where these cards can stay for many years to come!

I am trying to sort out the IRQs. I've disabled a bunch of things that I know I can disable. Here's what is left:

IRQ 0 System timer OK
IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock OK
IRQ 9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System OK
IRQ 11 OK
IRQ 13 Numeric data processor OK
IRQ 16 Intel(R) G33/G31/P35 Express Chipset PCI Express Root Port - 29C1 OK
IRQ 16 SAPPHIRE RADEON X300SE OK
IRQ 17 Intel(R) ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2939 OK
IRQ 17 Intel(R) ICH9 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 293C OK
IRQ 17 Intel(R) ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 1 - 2940 OK
IRQ 17 Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller OK
IRQ 17 Intel(R) ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 5 - 2948 OK
IRQ 18 Intel(R) ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 3 - 2944 OK
IRQ 18 Creamware Scope OK
IRQ 19 Intel(R) ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 4 - 2946 OK
IRQ 19 Intel(R) ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2935 OK
IRQ 20 Intel(R) ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 2 - 2942 OK
IRQ 21 Creamware Pulsar OK

Based on a search of the archives, the Pulsar (an old Type 1) is okay sharing with the SATA controllers, is that correct?

I haven't found anything in the archives about the PCI Express Root 3 sharing with the Scope card on 18. Is this one okay, or can it be disabled? Another option is to swap with the Pulsar2 card, so that it would share an IRQ and the Scope could be alone on 22. Unfortunately I run into some challenges with the length of the Scope card (interfers with SATA plugs mostly, but less optimum for heat dissipation as well).

Anything else I can disable? I will also be using a Midisport 2x2 and a Novation ReMote so I hate to disable too many USB ports.

Any recommendations for BIOS settings?

Thanks!

well, first disable everything not needed like parallel and serial ports and then see where you're at.

you can safely eliminate most of the usb controllers and still have all or most ports work.

the sata controller won't likely make trouble. the pci-e root probably won't either, although you can probably eliminate one of the controllers safely...

Thanks, I'll go ahead and close up the case and see how it goes then. Parallel and serial ports are already disabled. I actually have several free IRQs at this point, but the system doesn't shift things to the open ones.

thaaaat's right. :)

windoze does some things well, others not so hot, also, some things are hardwire-shared in the motherboard design.

you SHOULD disable the usb controllers sharing with scope. it's probably ok to disable the IRQ 18 Intel(R) ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 3, it's unlikey you are using it.

the sata controller must work, you have no choice, but i really doubt you need any of the other stuff, so kill it and have a stable system.

I recall that the DP35DP is a non-PS2 motherboard.

Be careful disabling all that USB stuff! :)
