after the fact...

It was the classic beta vs. vhs battle all over again.
beta is better (or is it betta), and vhs is crap, but look who the porn industry picked up.

IMO all the blue-rays, HD's, etc. will go away when downloading picks up.

not so true here in the US with NTSC. Total crap when duplicating.

Glad those days are over.

oh, by the way, Wiki is NOT the most reliable source for information, and my German is terrible so I can't read it anyways...

stardust wrote:ok why not.

Maybe p*rn is the reason.

But I thought the reason why internet is still running is p*rn over IP :D

And now all over blu ray ??
Yeah, hence the reason why blu-ray, or whatever, will probably only go through about a 5-year lifecycle before something else comes along - like some breakthrough in compressio that allows for faster download of full-length, HD, surround sound movies (or Internet 2 - whichever comes first).

stardust wrote:Yes the article quoted said blu ray is probably again only intermediate (dead on arrival) since the media future is evolving fast SSD and the NET.
Yup, and what drove the popularity of the internet?
It sure wasn't blogs :)

sure, for me, working at JPL way back when everything was text, and email was a novelty, but for the layman, it was the ability to send/receive photos (back in dial-up days), etc. etc.

Then mp3's and low-res streaming came in....

blah, blah, blah...and here we are...
