Hello Amsterdam

A friend is moving from Toronto to Amsterdam for 3+ years. He's never been, but his wife got some three year gig there and he's uprooting himself.
He's a virtuoso mandolin & acc. guitar player, and he'll be looking for any live acoustic "string band" scene, especially bluegrass and ethnic folk.
I know there are som Z'ers that are familiar with Amsterdam - can I gather any tips for this guy to help his search?
