PCI expansion

PCI-e to 4 PCI slots not super expensive like magma (its just a bridge chip after all)
http://www.virtuavia.eu/shop/pci-expres ... 29809.html
you would have to modify the case or just take the card out and put it in a PC case.
so you could fit long cards.
http://www.cooldrives.com/1popcto4xpci.html
is cheaper in dollars. that like to rip you off over there!

afair it's the box already tested by some member who found out that you cannot run two or more scope cards together

I did the review ....
I could only tested 1 UAD expert (100% ok) and 1/several scope boards : only one was perfectly working. It seems the stdm cable is responsible for this problem (only one scope). It seems that UAD are ok when several are installed. Have a look at the "purchase" section as i sell my new box at a very good price. remember : 1 scope or several uad. No drivers used on my XP Pro PC ...

what is the problem with 2 scope boards? does the app crash?

to be honest, the 'problem' is that people read theoretical max specs of a PC bus and assume that it automatically and magically all runs at full throttle.
Forgetting there's an interface translation required which has to be done in some kind of software... and as a developer you know that not all programs are created equal...
and rarely full implementations with all kinds of exceptions etc
cheers, Tom

If i remember well, when testing, scope hardware was not recognized, period. No crash but no hardware available.... With one scope, everything was exactly like a Magma ...

they seem to have found the solution for the problem:
http://virtuavia.eu/shop/pci-e-to-pci-e ... upply.html
after they released a case capable of holding full length pci cards, now they obviously have turned a previously dirty hack from an UAD user in a forum into a more professional solution.
volunteers, any?

ps. yes, you need a case and an atx psu, but if that works, it's still much cheaper than magma...

don't know, but when it turned out that uad users had the same problem like scope users (one card fine, two or more not), STDM could be ruled out being the only source of error.
it still does not necessarily mean it will work fine (until tested), but at least the insufficient power distribution problem seems to have gone.
virtuavia obviously discontinued the other boxes, or at least I can't find them anymore (where I would expect them).

wondering would this box run in osx?

well, they say "PC & Macintosh" so it should be like that...
once I put the host card into a x86 based server and used the first chassis (with the insufficient psu) for hooking up an ISDN card. no need for drivers.

bill included a driver cd in the package, I just didn't figure out what it would have to be used for.
the directory names suggest there is stuff for usb to ide, firewire, lan and sata drivers, and everything from 2006...
I somehow doubt the was even meant to be used with the box...
bill, do you miss some driver cd for a no-name hardware component?

lol

..i´m missing both mix & master and synth & sampler pack original CD´s, feel free to send me if you found them!!
seriously, i was using powercore with the box, this setup crashed time to time in logic8 osx. now i´m just waiting osx drivers to be released and see if scope is working better. until that i´m using scope via external rackmounted pIII which is ok, but routing fx is somewhat clumsy via adats. hope there was some way to check this compatibility other than wait osx drivers released and buy them, and then realise it wont work any better than poco.. and if youre wondering why not try with os9, there´s no classic supported for intelmacs.. cheers.

so what's it you exactly want to know? if you tried the box with some other card under osx already, you know at least the box itself runs with osx. concerning cw cards, nobody can say until scp5 is out...

thanks markus for information

..basicly, i liked to know if someone has managed to use scope 4.5/xtc´s on intelmacs with this box. there´s programs like sheepshaver which allows you to run os9 programs in osx. any other ideas? ..than forgetting it

well, I'm no mac guy, but afair scope 4.x simply does not run on an intel mac. and xtc was not available for mac.

don't know... but it may be an idea to start up xp via bootcamp and try. anybody ever tried that?
but then, to test if your desired setup works there are some prerequisites to meet anyway:
- an intel mac with osx and that... sheep whatever
- the abovementioned box
- a scope card
hey, aren't you exactly the guy having all that?

(I'm lacking part one)

excuse me for my terrible English.
has nobody tried this card expansion with a notebook? (with scope professional)

Thanks.

this box would be able to host only one scope card due to power limitations, and you would have to bend the case to make a scope project or professional fit.
in addition you'll need a laptop with express card. although they can be found on lots of notebooks nowadays I can't remember a PZ member having tested this combination.
I have a case like that, but with pcie x1 card. didn't test it with scope since I had to bend the case and didn't like the idea. don't have a notebook with express card either, so no need to buy a ec host card (the're cheap) for testing.
but I'll intend to get that ec host card as soon as I have a new notebook. will try it then with the atx powered backplane from the same manufacturer that is designed to obsolete the power limitation and can be mounted to a standard atx case.
