Whoa, Free NI Updates (In Case You Haven't Checked)

I'm using some old NI plug-ins such as Storm Drums, GPO, and Boesendorfer and I just found out there are major updates for free available that actually make it much better including a fancy new player (Kontakt Player 2), NI Direct From Disk (DFD) Extension, and new patches and sounds. This is great! There are new Absynth patches and update as well. If you haven't checked in a long time, you better. There are other updates I am sure. I mentioned the ones I own.

Since I have had some time to play with now, I must explain that the Kontakt 2 player allows you to adjust the amount of streaming. You can stream more if you have more RAM. It's good that it is adjustable. The GPO has a lot more presets now. It includes articulations which you can change by pressing lower keys in certain presets. It adds more functionality. I guess they listened to the complaints about GPO. I haven't tried the other NI plug-ins I own with the new updates yet.

Don't expect thousands of articulations like in the expensive libraries but still, it's a lot more fun to play with now. It's nothing like a real orchestra I know.

Will it sound better like the FM7 to FM8 jump?

I actually loved the old Absynth sound, as it did some un analog textures, but was a little tubby also.

The B3 was kind of wimpy, but they were first to apply a drawbar controller to their software, which I am sure helped bolster sales.

I am starting to pay attention to VSTi developers that know their stuff is thin, and at least acknowledge that fact by making them .......fatter.

Nice to hear about the GPO because I'm considering buying it.

FYI, there will soon be a sort of discount regarding garritan products (www.garritan.com)
i think GPO is a very good value for the price, simple to use, and with good quality. obviously, you don't have the realism of VSL, but with some study and tweaking you can make GPO sounds really good...

I have been playing with the GPO tonight. They must have remade the engine because it sounds better. I had a few times when it had a weird feedback loop which went away in about 20 seconds. It seems to tax the system more than before.

I had to authorize it again after the installation which was a total annoying pain in the ass. They have new software for this you have to install. I'm happy with what I have but I will not be buying any more from them because of this. The new software makes it easier but I just don't like being treated this way. The other complaint is support which they don't have enough of. You wait a long time for which you pay and then they try and rush you off the line.
