Some time ago I experienced random dropouts - audio dissapears for a couple of seconds, then returns.
What is the forums opinion on this:
My pulsar 1 is connected to the A16 via TDIF-cables. Pulsar is master/A16 slave(obviously...). I´m no loosing sync during the dropouts. And then: Suddenly I get problems running 48KHz also. There I have no sound at all! Only 44.1 works.
Have anyone experienced anything similar????
My thoughts are going to a defect A16... But I really want to be more sure of the reason, before I disable my studio for longer time.
Thanks!

Subject: A16
I´m working with the company I bought the gear from to find a solution. As far as I know the A16 has a story of behaving oddly at 48KHz. There´s a rumor that the fact that A16 isn´t 24 bit(18 or 20 can´t remember right now) and Pulsar being 24 bit might cause some of the trouble we´re having. I´m trying a RME AD/DA converter instead to see whether it´s the A16 or a maybe a pulsar problem.

Subject: A16/A8 is 18bit
A16/A8 manual says AD/DA-Converter 18bit
my pulsar1 is set to master 44.1 kHz and 16bit
and I have no problems.

Subject: 16 vs 18bit
Well 16 bit/44.1 is the same configurationI use right now, and this problem came out of nothing. Since I posted the first message, I´ve been in touch with one of CW´s supporters, Wolfgang I thinsk his name is - and he´s trying hard to figure out what the fu.. is wrong.
But nevertheless I really appreciate all answers! Some times just a little bit of information get the whole picture together, and voila:problem solved.
Hopefully also mine in a (very) short time.

Eric,
At the RME site they have a PC tune-up section that mentions short dropouts caused by certain windows operations. It is worth checking out.

Eric,
I just happened to think, when a TASCAM mixer doesn't see a signal, like in a drop-out, it reverts back to setting itseld as Master. That could be your sync problem.
