Sampling a sound, then looping it, on the fly

Hi all
I put this in Tips/General but wrong place.
Hope this place is OK!!!
I am after a simulation of a Boss type delay/sampler pedal, the one that you put the signal (usually a guitar) through, then you can press the foot pedal to start, and then stop and loop, the sample of the signal.
I can't figure out how to do this in STS and that is so big for such a simple thing. Can be mono or stereo.
This would have a mouse click to do the 'start'; 'stop and loop' functions, or midi from a keyboard.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks
