just finished the overclocking tests with the latest Q6600 (G0 Stepping!!) and the performance is outstanding!

stable since 4 days (without a single crash)
-just a standard cooling device in "silent mode".

..but the whole case is under negative pressure,
thats the cooling trick
(one chassis fan and one psu fan)

Asus has a great BIOS for OC'd boxes.

Remember when the PCI buss couldn't be separated from the FSB? Glad those days are gone.

I unfortunately have to upgrade in December as my schedule dictates, so instead of waiting for March for the very overclockable 45nm, I am forced to buy the QX9650 for 10000 USD. But the money I will make by jumping in with GS4 /GVI 4 in December and Janurary alone, will justify that extreme purchase.

The multiplier can be unlocked to go up and down like the FX series CPU's that AMD have. So I will report on it's triumphs as well. Stock multiplier is 9 x 333.29MHz, I will bump it 11 for a quad core 3.66MHz CPU.

The Q6600 w/ G0 stepping is a phenominal CPU, at a phenominal price.

A current 965 mobo w/ one of these is a super bang for a buck.

if you overclock the FSB overclock also the PCI Experess and PCI bus over the specific,attention!,the scope card I think have problem over 33 MHZ of bus,
please post in this forum if all work fine also the audio sub system

I recommend you test your system with Prime95. http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm
If you don't get any errors, you can be sure its stable.

For CPU temperature monitoring use Core temp. www.thecoolest.zerobrains.com/CoreTemp/

I'm sure boinc does as well, and additionally gives you a lot of choices what to waste your electricity for

Q6600 is very easy to overclock as soon as you got a good cooling system and a good otherboard...
Seems with standart cooling system, thet it can go up to 3.2GHz in total stability
For Further, big Noctua to cool it or water cooling...
Some have gone a lot further with the Q-series by using liquid nitrogen


But I agree, better take care about the PCI bus speed: I crashed my old pulsar I a few years ago when overclocking my old Duron with a Gigabyte mobo
(And I'm very happy 'cause my old 1999 board is still running, as it was in its box for at least 4 years!!!)

I have decided to steer clear of the new 45nm CPU's, and the X38's.

I do wish to OC my next purchase, and as much as I love reading about the new stuff, I always get a grip and return to the benchmarks.

The difference in our audio apps at stock speeds is less than in video, games and such.

My friend here has always OC'd his Scope Luna, Giga 2.54 rig, and it is still running great. A Pentium M780 was damn near the best single threaded CPU when OC'd.

I have decided to get a stable Intel based mobo and CPU. The Asus Commando has some excellent cooling, and layout. The Q6600 seems perfect for this also.

I watch the OC forums and reviews at 4 different sites and only one does audio benchmarking using LAME. But it's a good reference for checking back on rigs that have been OC'd for months and months w/o stability issues. It seems as though Asus always has the most satisfying experiences w/ OC'ng.

Has anyone here had a Scope DAW where the CPU has been OC'd for a year or so? I am interested in hearing about any sucesses, and of course, the agony of defeat.

The new Gigastudio 4 app. seems to have been optimised already for multi-core, and SSE4. I was impressed with GVI, so any carry over of that app. will only be enhanced in GS4.

which motherboard are you using with such setup (scope + q6600)?
Is PCI at 33 mhz and SATA/EIDE not overclocked / overvolted but running at their own freqs ? I am afraid that such motherboard speed may damage harddrives ... i had some ibms crashes in the past because using overclocked features that overclocked EIDE channels too to higher frequencies.

When IBM was building hard drives, you didn't needed to overclock to see them becoming out of use: you'd just had to wait the guarantee was finished and in the 2 months following, they were goin to trash bin
