Ken Burns documentary "The War" sponsored by General Motors automobile production company, is being currently broadcast in my area. If you live in Chicago check channel 11 at primetime. Since this is an international forum, it would be nice hear oppinions on the WW2 from other countries or if you have other suggestions for documentaries of this nature besides the renowned The World At War epic, you could post them in this thread.

The War series of 7 episodes, each 2 hours long, tracks the events of the second world war from the perspective of citizens of 4 cities in US: Luverne Minnesota, Mobile Alabama, Sacramento California and Waterbury Conneticut.








As you can see the series are pretty graphic so viewer discretion is advised.
The War has unfortunately sparked an interest to learn more about this conflict.

The World at War is the definitive World War II documentary.

What I have to say, very, very unfortunately... is that we are close to the BIG number 3 now, as it will probably start in just a few months time... No kidding here. Just look what is going on...

I did see some of it, and was appalled at the destruction of English , and German cities, and even Antwerp's devastation by V2's just 6 weeks before the surrender of Germany.

Now that was a horrible war, really. No wonder my father doesn't speak of it much. When we were kids all of my cousins and friends saw my father's medals, and asked him to tell the story, he would shake his head in disgust at how eager to die all of the kids were. Vietnam just kicked in, and my older brother volunteered. My father has never regretted telling my brother to stay home until someone shoots at you.

These days the newspapers act horrified at the loss of life.

I guess they forgot Normandy, London, Dresden, Essen, and all of the real horrible stories of war.

Trust me gents, if there is a WWIII, America will win, but we will witness the loss of life like those peole witnessed in WWII. We will forever be changed.

Mother Nature always balances itself out somehow.

Trust me Jimmy, if there is a WWIII, then no-one will win.

I left him plenty of room. You can't even imagine how much I held back. Besides you're not suggesting we should hold back our thoughts just so we can make someone else "comfy" with his ideas?

Many other countries were involved and suffered terrible losses.
