AT & T w/ Apple iPhone Rules Supreme !!

I sat next to a young lass coming back from a bachelorette party in San Francisco last weekend who had the most amazing little phone. She was watching the 300 also, you know the story about the Spartans @ Thermopylae in 490B.C.... Anyway, I was shocked to see she pulled out a nice little Ultimate Ears monitor set, one of JHarvey's little 99 USD ones from Guitar Center, or Radio Shack, and plugged it in. I begged her for a small demo which she proudly gave me. This thing sounds great w/ the UE's, but it was a touch screen, GPS, movies, music, web capable device.
I must have one of these.
Do any of you techies out there have one of these?
How do you rate it against the Blackberry stuff.

it's really cool, but...
there is a major backdoor for government agencies to observe the owner, and it requires a long agreement to use, with online costs that are astronomical.
a freind got one for $100 from a guy who when he saw what he was getting into, sold it for a loss without hesitation. my freind played with it, thought it was really neato and then sold it.
a really nifty toy for the wealthy.....it's like those scifi devices carried by aliens in the distant future in movies and tv shows used to be. that's enough for most. heck, I want one...for free. it's totaly cool. see the movie "the president's analyst" starring James Coburn.

I consider myself pretty up do date with these tech gadgets, especially since I work in the online ad scene here in NY where things bloom. I don't have an iPhone, and probably will never will have one, but 2 of my bosses, and 2 of my friends in a higher income bracket have iPhones. Bottom line, from what I think combined with what my friends with iPhones have to say, is to wait for the iPhone to go through changes to allow for Verizon access. At&T internet is ridiculously too slow for any of iPhone's internet capability to be useful.
If I were to balance this between "toy", and "useful tool", it definitly falls in "toy".

Also there seems to be some evidence that some large percentage of the touch screens are 'wearing out' in specific areas rather quickly, as these things haven't been on the market very long. I would wait personally unless you're a technology feteshist or just have the money to blow every month. I'm also amazed Apple still has yet to put out a 16Gb solid state iPod/iPhone. Many other companies have had 16Gb devices out since around last Christmas, and often at a price that competes well with Apple at 8Gb. Apparently Apple's domination of the iPod market has led to them being rather ruthless when they negotiate the contracts for the parts that they source and they're holding out for the best possible margins.
Personally I've been waiting on a phone that uses a linux kernel and has decent internal storage plus nice multimedia capabilities (screen and decoding power). Most phones that run the Java based OS's or Symbian are rather convoluted & bare in their multimedia & web support, and the windows mobile based phones are nice for the soccer moms but lacking when it comes to being able to expand the tech. I want a phone I can compile bitchx or irssi on, install OpenSSL to run an ssh2 client and use the phone's mobile internet to tunnel my laptop's bittorrent client through a remote shell. Or at least something that flexible, I don't necessarily need to do that specifically.
At least people are figuring out how to make the iPhone more flexible even against Apple's efforts to keep it a closed platform.

iPhones are cool, I've played with them a little bit. I actually prefer my Palm Treo for the hardware keyboard, though people tell me that you get used to the screen keyboard pretty quick. I also think the Palm calendar is a bit easier to use -- you can actually see stuff in the month view.
But iPhones sure do get the chicks. (And the guys, apparently.)

Well It looks pretty sweet now, as the iPhone prices went from 500 to 200 USD. AT&T has a pretty decent package also.
Since I hate COX and their online / offline status, I decided that ebay, and emergency Scope solutions @ a gig, were justified.
Before I add this to my Christmas list, I will watch and investigate people who use the unlimited media packages, where movies, music, emails, and wireless headsets can be used. I happen to have several sets of wireless UE Pro 10's laying around, and those are pro 3-way stereo solutions w/ subwoofer included in the drivers themselves. I would be the coolest cat around 4 sure.
I will keep you guys informed of the proper time to buy, and which company gives the best packages.
This is definately a hunting Dog 4 sure.

Actually 300 USD now, and unlimited access of 550 minutes per month for 80 USD monthly, and that includes an extra phone. Since most of my friends and family use AT&T all of those phone calls are free. If you go over your minutes the prices are quite punishing, like 58 cents a minute !! They pray that you can't count, and the minutes aren't rolled over either. A 2 second peek at ebay is a minute, so click on the feature with the seconds counter.
This will only be used during flights, or of course gigs that suck. I have a mannequin that stands behind my keyboards at the really lame gigs, while I am off chasing dancers and increasing my pay at the black jack tables.
