Latest CPUs and motherboards

I'm seriously considering a motherboard and CPU replacement and I'm gonna open a thread for this cause I can see some recent Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs (E6750/6550) that are faster and cheaper than the E6600/6700, but have a 1333 MHz FSB.
I'm wondering how come they are cheaper and which MoBo can suit coupled with one of those for a CW DAW.

don't overestimate those FSB figures - they ARE marketing in the first place
simplyfied: they increase the FSB and insert wait cycles into the RAM
while I don't really know what I'm writing about (as I refuse to waste my time with such 'details') that's the bottomline of my impression whenever I pickup a mag at the PC dealer and look at the latest benchmark charts.
the FSB may be twice as 'fast' but the machine scores just 10% higher
cheers, Tom

Ok, but why the E6750 is rather cheaper than the E6600?
They are both Core 2 duo 65nm 4GB cache, similar clock frequency...
I haven't read magazines too in this months; time has come.
I agree with you and it wouldn't be matter of choice being the 6600 cheaper than the latest, as usually happens, but...

I think you remember we discussed about Conroes in a previous thread months ago, and, yes, I had been waiting for new processors in the meanwhile; definitely just due to the price drop I expected for the models I was interested to.
What a rip-off!
World looks more mad every new day to me.
But eventually the fool is me.

About motherboards the only thing I can say in this peak moment is that the code name of the Intel's xtreme series D975XBX does definitely sound weird to me.
I don't know all the meanings of the word but bad axes rarely sound good for guitar players.

well, I also wondered why the prices for the 6x20 models are remarkably less than the old models. my only explanation for that could be that the old models are suitable for upgrading existing setups by just purchasing a new processor, while buying one of the new models almost guaranteed involves investing in a new board that supports the fsb and processor, which is maybe intended to be pushed. (I might be, nevertheless, wrong here

)

I use an Intel D975X BX2 mobo, and have been very happy with it. I don't, however, own a Scope card, so this may not matter

Just discovered one of the differences between E6X00 and E6X50 Intel processor series. Have a look at the tables below.
This is the link to the whole datasheet pdf

Here's a really fast cheap way to go. I don't overclock, but my friend who builds DIY boxes for himself, and his gamer freak kids, OC'd a Pentium M780 to beat the P4's and AMD FX series. The M was a giga dream.
I prefer a low latency approach, as this faster bus yeilds little in real world apps, especially audio. 3ms in ULLI w/ CL3 DDRII is quite fast.
There are new boards and chipsets coming out that will use this bus more efficiently, but in 6 months they will also become taken by a new marketing ploy as well.
I especially like the Asus mobo's w/ all of their heat sink and copper tubing that draws heat away from an already cool CPU ? But as my kid and I said when we looked at the Commando at our local geek squad store,........................WOW !!!!!!!! I doubt it is even needed.

Thanx Gary and Jimmy,
just, I was in the urgent need of a more airy cabinet and of a fanless graphic card since I was cocking a bit my hardware.
So I bought in the past weeks an Enermax Chakra with monster fan ( I added a resistive load in series with the 25 cm monster driving it by less current, with a switch for the instance I'll need to full feed it; it's more quiet now, but still effective enough, being added a 12cm front fan extracting around 1200 rpm ).
I bought also an EN7300TC512 graphic card. I had a look for a 7200 but it wasn't available here, so...
It works pretty good, looking quite more stable than the X600 installed before and being somehow more effective with the settings for my very old crt 2nd monitor. I'm just quite perplexed about the turbo cache feature...but I had no concrete problems with this till now.
This way, my budget had become further narrow at now; even for the options you suggest I'll have to wait.

Have you seen this one? It's getting very good reviews, seems quite nice....the sata connectors are very cleverly oriented parallel to the board. It seems it is an overclocking heaven, at normal speeds it should be very stable...

After releasing some rather weak BIOS last year, ABIT has returned to be a favorite at
