Crackles when playing a song

Hi Guys!
bought a new computer.
Asus P5B
E 6600
2GB RAM
RAID5 with 3 X 500GB.
3 Creamware cards
Made all XP optimizations which I knew from the past.
Disabled the USB Controller which shares the CREAMWARE CARD.
PROBLEM:
I load an old song to see if everything works and it does BUT:
I got crackelz when playing back the song. I already changed the priority of Logic 5.51 and SFP but still the same.
ANY IDEAS that i don't see
thanks
DT

Does it happen when you minimize Scope also ?
I assume you put logic on high priority ? What happens if its realtime ? (might crash your system if Logic behaves badly)
You can also check your pagefile of course!
And I'd check what your disks are doing.

Thanks for your quick answer!!!
I noticed a little difference when i minimize scope and interistingly as well when I minimize logic. Less crackles but but still there are some.
Yes I put Logic to High Priority.
You mean deleting the pagefile?
How can I check what the discs are doing.?

Well put ithe pagfile on a fixed size first., maybe on a differnt disk.
You can use the performance monitor to check disk activity.
Its in the administrative tools directory.

What kind of graphics card do you have? Crackles are often related to graphic cards. If you got a AGP card try disabeling AGP to IRQ in bios. On all cards: try to disable write combination (in display prop/advanced), if still problems try to downscale acceleration.

Thanks guys
I fixed the PageFile already. try to put it on another disk!

OK.
I have a Radeon X 1300 pro PCI-Express and I read somewhere, that Radeons could cause crackling?
I'll be home in a few minutes to check it out.
Thanks agian!!

I was so happy to have a new PC and now it crackles, Mamaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by next to nothing
i seem to be here just to answer with low level suggestions these days, but i just want to make sure you use the ASIO drivers

Piddy!!
Even I did that, it's good that someone asks in between this stuff as well.
I talked with a friend on the phone a few years ago and we were trieng to figure out, why his internet connection did not work. And he tried to connect for nearly an hour until we realized that we were talking on the only available connection he had!!

Don't worry. Seems like a typical thing with new Scope and new setups and you just need to tweek a bit here - and tweek a bit there to make it work...
Tips: Open your seuqenser progr. play in loop. (but stop when you do major tweeking) and then...
- move around various sub windows/zoom inn and out while playing and check if the crackling gets worse
- open up taskmanager and see if the cracklings get worse
- when moving around taskmanager window - does it get worse?
- run msconfig and stop all uneeded startup programs.
- look at the processes and end check if something steals power/are hectic, do a search on these and end the ones you dont need. (some trial and error will occur)
and other stuff you should check:
- stop all anti virus progr./etc (but you knew that?!)
- go to
www.musicxp.net and check....
- search this forum for more info.
-post findings

Hi,
I read somewhere that using RAID can cause a lot of problems in audio production...

Hey There!!
I did all recomandations-but shit- does not work.
When I load any song and play it back. I have this pops. Not every second or regular. They are rondomized. Sometimes only after 1 minute.
It's as well on audio files and on midi files.
I made a Masterverb test and after 2 Masterverbs the PCI Overflow message came. I have 11 DSP and my old Barton did 5 before the first message came!
Somehow I doubt the Cset ini file.
I have three boards. Pulsar 1 Pulsar SRB and a Luna 2. The dsp meter counts the LUNA as first and the three dsp files as first.
I have connected my hardware to the Pulsar 1. Is Pulsar 1 then the host?
Maybe I have to fool aroundwith the PCI Slots?
Thank you all again!!

1. What is your ULLI?
2. You're sure it's not a plugin? Have you tried disabling plugins one by one while playing back until you find the problem (or not)? I've found quite a few plugins are more unstable on multicore machines than on single core machines.
3. Did you run PlgEnablr32a.exe or whatever it's called to check any directx plugins?
Also, depending on the RAID implementation it might not only be eating PCI bandwidth but also cpu power. Almost all consumer RAID implementations only have a chip that facilitates the electrical connections necessary. There is no cpu coprocessing as you would get with SCSI RAID.

Thanks Valis;
switched the ULLI from 7 back to 13ms at 44.1 SR. but it does not help.
Good Idea to check for the plug-ins. I had problems with Hypersonic
get the asio error 983 when opening the song. When I reload it's OK.
try the rest later!!
Thx for your time

Hi,
Have you tried doubledawg to set the pci latency? I had to do this to get rid of noise because my graphics card and usb devices hogged the bandwidth.
I had to also disable all peripherals (in bios) to find the culprit..... I swopped, changed and cleaned PCI slots and cards until I found total stability. I can now only use one usb port for my midiman, if I add anymore peripherals I get what your getting.
The stdm cable gave me jib as well because it kept popping out causing coms errors. Everything works like a dream now.
I hope you fix it... its worth it the hassle

Hi together!!
I spent a lot of time during the weekende with tesing and I think it`s a hardware related problem.
I ordered a new STDM cable (the old was a little short) and I buy a nvidia grapics card for testing.
Let you know - what the problem was.
Thanks

I had crackles when playing back songs, ive tried creamware on several computers with multiple processors both AMD and intel and experienced the same problem. Try turn off one cpu specifically for the SFP.exe program, it seems to work for me. CTRL+ALT+DELTE, rightclick SFP, set affinity, choose one core, let me know if it works

that shouldn't be needed with the core2 cpu.....

The crackles only disappear if I switch Cubase priority to the highest position and SFP.exe to normal.
The changing of the SFP.exe to only a single CPU did not change the crackles.
Gary:
I have three pulsar cards.
Pulsar 1 (PCI-0) + Pulsar SFP(PCI-1) + LUNA II (PCI-3)
The SFP Software sees the Luna always as first card,
In the Cset.ini I have BOARD 2 = host
I connected an ADAT to the Pulsar 1 and use the ADAT for all incoming and outgoing signals.
But still the behavior of the ASIO-Signals is not as good as on my old machine.
little pops and glitches as I mentioned above only dissapear if CUBASE is set to Realtime priority.
thanks a lot
