Behringer ADA8000 versus Creamware A16 Ultra

Can anyone give me an informed opinion of the ADA8000?

Points I'm wary about,

1. Sound is reported to be cold and hard/brittle.
2. Behringer power supplies rumored to be noisy.
3. Price :)

I am thinking of getting a couple of these devices as they are so cheap and also the front panel gain controls will be a benefit. But..I cant help feeling that "you get what you pay for" Is that the case in this example?

I will be using it to record live music, all styles and instruments, with feeds from FOH desk and also directly from microphones . I dont expect the best converters from a unit at this price but equally I do plan to use in a proffesional setting. Is it up to the job or should I spend the extra on an A16 ultra?

Finally, is there any kind of software operated gain control/pad for the inputs on the A16 Ultra ?

Thanks folks :)

the A16 is much better sounding, much nicer and wsrmer as the price would suggest. the ada8000 is very serviceable, however. if money is an issue it'll work just fine(the ada8000 has 8 mic pres too!).

no, there's no software gain control, other than a scope mixer.

ADAT only does up to 48Khz Whereas the ultra does 96Khz personally compared to apogees and focusrite octopres the ultra is well worth the money

Usually one might conclude that synths sound the same at 44.1, 48, and 96k.
A16 Ultra disproves that train of thought.

I have twin ADA8000's. You can't beat them for the price. If you want to hear what they sound like in a mix, check out my site by clicking on the link in my sig and listen to EXMTrance1v3. I have most of my gear running through the Behringers.
